My good knick pal at work keeps harassing about this. He says Melo should wait it out and resign that way the Knicks can build around him.

I'm starting to think he should try to leave because at 30/31....His realistic window is like 3 more years at playing at a high level and he is going to be declining and possibly might start to break down. Technically his shoulder issues say he is in fact breaking down. Anyway the real opportunity is now for Melo to go somewhere he can win right away. If he goes to Houston he can have a big 3 of Harden and Howard and himself. If he conspires with miami he could have a big 4. Boston has alot of assets to trade plus money. Chicago has a foundation already in place.

Truthfully the Knicks are a step behind. They are up and coming though. We need to establish a foundation this year then look to add to it next year. Melo doesn't change any of that either way.

So what would you do if you were in that situation?

I don't think Melo is thinking about how the Spurs just won and how likely it is that Phil is going to be putting in the same kind of foundation with the Knicks. The Spurs weren't dependent on one single player!!! That TEAM approach was a thing of beauty and represents everything that Phil believes in. Going back to his days as a Knick Phil knows 1st hand that it's about TEAM.

Sure there are other teams that have more top line talent right now, but doesn't guarantee you a title. IMO Houston lost because of their style of play and not a lack of talent. The same goes for OKC. Harden and Westbrook are not great team players. The Mavs played some good team ball and in their case it was a lack of talent. The Bulls need more talent as well. It's possible that if Melo goes to the Bulls he could put himself in a position to win a title. Melo has to choose wisely. If it was me i'd either stay in NY or go to the Bulls.

I would stay. If playing in NY means as much as Melo said it did, than winning a titles here would mean a lot more to me than winning in Chicago, Houston, Dallas and Miami. Paul Pierce had to make the same decision several years ago and he decided to tough it out in Boston. Kevin Garnett chose to leave when he was in a similar situation. I can't really look down at either decision .

He should stay there is no guarantee to win elsewhere. Any other destination besides Miami has no guarantee to win they are basically in the same boat as the Knicks. Even Miami lost so that's not a given either.

Looking at the series, I think it's clear that Houston lost because they didn't have the right mix of talent. It's one thing for Aldridge and Lillard to get hot, but it's another one thing when Nic Batum and Wesley Matthews are dropping points with ease. Houston's wing defense was horrible. Lack of a bench killed OKC. Who was Westbrook going to pass it too outside of Durant, Ibaka and Reggie Jackson? How bad was OKC's bench? Derek Fisher was getting decent minutes for them. OKC and Houston could probably use new coaches too.

Of I were Melo?????

First, I don't like big booty women so La La and her honey nut nipples would be gone.
Second, I look at my bank account and the fat 70mil in it. Then I'd call Phil and ask to be traded to the Clippers. The weather is great, got a place on Malibu, and would bank skinny ass supermodels as much as I could.

But If I love La La and realize the girl done gone Hollywood then I'd want to be with her and I want to play in LA.
If I want to win a chip I try to wiggle on the clippers. Or get a penthouse with a killer view in San Fran and play for the Warriors.

If my want to be my own man I max out in NY, consider riding some other stars nutsack for a chip is lame and build with Phil Jax. Then blame everyone else for the teams failure and demand a trade, destroy another teams roster and get another tat.

With La La in LA i'd still bang all them skinny ass supermodels but be very careful about it In NYC one can hide from the paparazzi a bit easier. Then in the last year of my contract I'd be a big pain in the ass like Starbury and they can just mail my checks while I try to make nice with La La and have another kid. Or, pay up more big producing money and bank roll movies that she can be in. While she on location, bang more skinny ass supermodels.

Really?

Im melo I don't want to be in Chicago if Thibs is making me play defense.
In Miami I can hype my Pueto Rican heritage with a pencil thin 'Stash and cool hats.
In Boston I can incite racial chants and Larry Bird Comparisons. Fans forgot Pierce, KG and Ray were black and go back racist ways.
In Dallas I can wear queer as folk Cowboy boots and think Im cool, while Cuban whores me out on some reality show.
IN Houstan I can mentor Dwight on proper condom use but if I have to guard Harden in practice with that facial birds nest I will leave. I'll have to insist on them keeping Lin so I can ruin him again, then have Mchale fired!!!
In Golden State we'll score 130 a nite and lose n Conf. finals but nobody will blame me. Curry will start to age and he'll look like David spade. I'll get Kerr fired and get all my touches back.
Can't go to Toronto cuz I don't like Indian food. Allergic to Cheese and Spree so Milwaukee is out. Wizards would be "coming home" but the sequal goes strait to DVD, Philly? Its too nasty. Charlotte got Jordan but no supermodels. ATL has cool rap crowd so I could be with that. Pelicans have that voodoo thing and it scares LA LA and not enough skinny ass supermodels. Memphis, Really? Sacremento is the only not cool city in California.
Portland would be cool, they have a team yet in Seattle? Detroit don't want me. Cleveland would be funny if I went.

So with the 10th pick in the Alba draft, Nalod picks anyone but La La and every Kardashian with exception of Khortney lol video vixens are off the list as well.

Nothing against Melo but I kinda hopes he goes because i think teh Knicks needs a clean slate and i dont wnat to pay him a monster contract when he is already in his 30's. Im hoping we can get some assets/picks and infuse some young talent for teh first time in a while. Then next year we have plenty of cap space for the 2015 FA class

if i am melo i would stop fronting and accept that i am not a franchise level talent and should not be paid like one.
i then take a close look at parker and ginobili's careers and salaries and offer to play for 12-13 million a year.
i know that this will allow phil jackson a real chance to build a title-contending team the right way.
if i am lucky enough to win a title during this last part of my career i will be forever loved by new york city.
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

up and coming may be wrong choice of words, but Dolan finally handing over the reigns of the franchise to an 11 time champion is a step in the right direction...

If winning a ring is that important to him, then leaving might be the best decision. Winning a ring in NY would be great, but realistically, Knicks haven't won a championship in over 40 years, why should Melo be so optimistic about winning one in the next 3 years? Phil presence helps, but without word through the back channels that Lebron is coming to the big apple nxt summer, this roster is far from competing for a 'ship.

If I were advising Melo, I say sign a new contract with the Knicks with an opt out after one or two years or both. Gives him several choices. Maxes out his contract so that it protects him in event of injury or physical decline, second gives him the opportunity to see what PJ has done and how the new HC adapts.

Yeah, I'd go for a Paker/Ginobili salary but NOT in NY.

If he wants to win while he is still in his prime he probably should leave. He is on his third coach and third gm in ny. Another 'new vision' for the team that requires him to wait and get older until the team's salary situation improves. He also will be playing for a rookie coach.

I hope he stays but the biggest advantage the Knicks have over other teams is the ability to pay him more. If he is taking less to win it makes sense for him to go somewhere where he has a chance. There are a lot of better run organizations that are interested in him and would jump to championship contender with the addition of Melo.

i will help him pack his valise and will drive him to port authority bus terminal. he won't be able to afford much more than bus fare what with the huge financial hit he will need to take to leave town.
