LOL never saw this gif. Given that everything on the bottom right is identical, I'm guessing it was in reaction to this:

My friend doesn't stretch the truth. You can believe it or not, don't bother me. Just passing along a story.

But I thought it was a friend of a friend... You really think Melo broke down and cried in the middle of the restaurant, his tears dripping into a $50 steak? I'm not calling you out, I just think the story smells very fishy.

thanks for sharing dude. i know you claim no validity to the story, which is why i don't get why people would get on you. thanks for just passing it along, whether it's true or not.

Yeah, thanks for sharing... I dunno guys -- something very believable about it to me. I don't think Phil is enamoured with Melo in the slightest. From every little nugget we've heard from Phil so far---Phil saying right off the bat that we're good with or without him; trying to get Melo to take A LOT less or to opt in on his player option (knowing full well there's no way he's doing either), etc. -- quiet a few indicators to me that Phil wants to turn the page..

And that's fine -- I just want to see us get a few pieces to rebuild with in return. Hopefully it'll be another short rebuild -- get a few young pieces back to rebuild with, use next year to instill the triangle and as an open audition for some young players we target and give a chance to, see if we can get anything favorable for some of our other players who aren't part of the future and wait for the cap room to open up after next season...Easier said than done, I know, but I gotta believe that if there are a few interested teams (even if it's just the Bulls, Rockets and the Mavs), those teams will compete with one another to get him when the time comes -- that's where we'll get our sign and trade. Hopefully...And if that sense of competition isn't there right now, I wanna see Phil work to create it...Phil's gotta work those 3 teams against one another -- get the best package back in return, hopefully centered around an expiring contract(s), a pick(s) and maybe a good young salary-controlled player or two. If it's the Bulls package Briggs has mentioned (Boozer, filler and a couple of picks), OK, I could live with that. Gotta first see if Houston, Dallas or anyone else have anything better...As long as Phil works it like this, I'm good. I won't be good if he walks away for nothing. That'll chap me like crazy.

I don't buy the story as is - makes no sense then for Phil & others to meet up and give Melo a follow up meeting and provide a blue print of our future plans.

Now, I could see Phil being frank with what he thinks Melo needs to change to take the next step - but I don't see tears being shed.

I agree that I appreciate him sharing his info with us but I highly doubt Melo cried in the middle of the restaurant.

Also, I view Phil's comments as "we want Melo but if he decides to move on we'll be ready to move forward without him". I don't know why so many people are taking it as him underhandedly trying to push Melo out of NY. He's just not catering to him like we're used to seeing from the past couple of seasons.

this story doesnt add up to anything remotely close to what melo has said all season long, nor does it come close to what phil has said since he got here.

The guy said he opting out during media day in september.

Yeah, it's hard for me to believe rumors taken from a second hand source.

Are you asking him if she's ever slept with Paul Pierce?

toodarkmark wrote:So I have a friend of a friend, we will leave it at that, who overheard Phil and Melo's conversation they had at a dinner back in April or May. Apparently Phil told Melo he does not want him in NY. He just doesnt see him as the type of player he is trying to build around, and would try to put him in a good position. Apparently Melo was crying because he loves NY.

Take it for what it is. Im making no claims of anything. Just passing along a story.

I too have a friends who constantly lies!

This kind of made up stuff belongs on the realgm forums- they had a guy there who tried to claim he encountered a time traveller from the future (and people believed him), and some guy who claims to be friends with all the team and got given a pair of Melo's underpants (and people believed him too)!

So Phil tells Melo he would like him to re-sign or opt in, then invites him to dinner to tell him he wants him gone, then flies out to see him a few weeks later with Mills and the coach he will never play for and Melo agrees to meet them all after Phil made him cry.
