Derek Fisher said he hopes to have his staff in place by the start of the Las Vegas Summer League next month.
“Obviously, we want to prepare for the Vegas Summer League, so hopefully we can do it soon,” the new Knicks coach said at his introductory press conference. “That’s going to be very important.”
Asked if he would have former head coaches on his staff — Kurt Rambis, among others, has been rumored – Fisher said it was a possibility.
“I don’t know if there’s a guarantee of that,” he said. “I know it’s been talked about a lot. I think finding the right balance is definitely going to be key, so I think experience will be key. Whether it’s a former head coach or not, we’ll get to that. But our staff is going to be important, not just because I don’t have any experience as a head coach but your staff is also a big key to success.”
Fisher figures to have other members of Phil Jackson’s inner circle on his staff, potentially including some mix of Bill Cartwright, Jim Cleamons and Frank Hamblen, as Frank Isola pointed out.
