Jackson will work Sunday during ESPN's telecast of of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers.

Jackson will join play-by-play commentator Mike Breen and fellow analyst Jeff Van Gundy, reuniting the trio that broadcast the NBA Finals for five consecutive years starting in 2011.

A former All-Star point guard during his 17-year career as a player, Jackson was fired by the Warriors earlier this month following the team's first-round playoff loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. The Warriors have hired Steve Kerr, another analyst without coaching experience.

The Warriors went 51-31 this season under Jackson, posting their best record since 1991-92.

Jackson went 121-109 in three seasons with Golden State, which reached the postseason each of the last two years. He had been mentioned as a possible candidate for the New York Knicks' vacant head coaching position.

They were a great trio. Also, Jax is one of my favorite Knicks but I don't know if he and Phil mesh well. I think Phil wants a rookie coach.

I don't understand why he and Phil can't mesh..Outside of Phil wanting to run training camp...I think Phil can teach him the triangle..Doc initially wasn't and X and O's guy in Orlando...Mark could be taught the triangle with some of Jackson's assistant around him...Oh well...

At least Fisher has leadership experience- Kerr doesn't even have that! His only qualification that got him a coaching job was that he has dinners with Phil Jackson!

I dunno -- I happen to agree with nyk4ever. Seriously, why not Fisher??? Out of what's left, Fisher would be my top choice by a mile, zero coaching experience and all. I think this guy's an EXCELLENT choice actually: smart/savvy vet that's from this era--for what that's worth; unlike a guy like Jason Kidd, he's still contributing at a late age and didn't all of a sudden fall apart--again, for what that's worth; we've been told he's an excellent leader from everyone who's commented on the matter recently (Kevin Durant, Scott Brooks --- we already knew this about him but it's still nice to hear it and from people who count); big-time triangle experience (and success with the triangle--how many trips to the playoffs and championships did he have with the Lakers under P-Jax executing within that system?? Answer: A TON; love that several teams brought him back for 2nd tours of duty--that shows his continued worth and importance as a leader even at an advanced age with diminished skills; unlike a Mark Jackson, you know this guy will completely buy in and wanna teach what he's learned from Phil and what he's had success doing 100%. Mark Jackson was never a triangle guy -- how would he react the first time we go into a funk, trying to teach something he may not fully be behind himself?); who can forget the whole deal with his daughter having eye cancer in 2007 yet he still got himself to a playoff game, played and excelled for the Jazz against the Warriors when they really needed him--an unbelievable story); then there's his experience as president of the NBA Players Association which only continues to speak volumes and seal the deal for me.

I've warmed up to Fisher so much recently that I'll be disappointed now if we don't get him. Really, really dig the idea for all these reasons. I think he's an excellent guy to team up with Phil. Might wind up being a much better choice than Steve Kerr, who may very well turn out to be too high maintenance. I like the idea that we can possibly go out and find our very own Doc Rivers here. Get this done asap (as soon as he finishes up his playing career).
