To take less money for a team without it being a established contender or to team up with established superstars? Yea Duncan and Jordan and Lebron-Wade-Bosh and others took less money, but they did so on already established winning teams or to team up with other superstars.

Have there been any stars in NBA's past that have done what we are asking Melo to do? Which is take less money before the core is established?

Something that I think is unfair for Melo in his situation is that the guys sited by Phil live in states with out income tax. While lbj grosses less than Melo for being noble and taking less he nets more because of the horrible taxes in nys and nyc. If Melo takes less in ny he truly is taking less. Duncan truly is taking less because his deal is around 10 mil but Wade and LBJ are a different story.

NYS tax rate over a mil is 8.82%...NYC tax rate over 500k is 3.875%...Florida and Texas have no state tax..

It takes him about 3 weeks to earn that back in endorsements

The CBA needs to be changed to even the playing field. Having no state income tax is a huge advantage for teams in Florida and Texas. Ny taxes are ridiculous.

Which will be taxed that those rates as well..Playing in Florida and Texas doesn't slow down your endorsements either..Ask LeBron, Wade and the Beard..

You pay tax in every state that you play in. That's why accounting is so complex for athletes. You can also live and play in different cities for tax purposes.

But fans in most states are going to say the CBA needs to be modified to make up for the endorsement rates. I'd rather have the biggest endorsement market in the continent and pay an extra 8% taxes. This is just a desperate complaint by Knicks' fans.

Are you serious? Suggesting a labor agreement addresses money made from other endeavors? Good luck.

That idea doesn't need any more luck than yours does!

Don't think he has done it yet, but planned to this coming off season in order to entice Paul or Howard that if they signed there he would take less money to get a 3rd guy or something like that.

Melo is a big part of the reason why the team is what it is today and Denver/Orlando has our lottery pick this draft. One of the deepest ever

And we would have had Denver's lottery pick. If not for the Bargs trade, which has nothing to do with Melo.

Neither does amnesting an expiring contract of Billups rather then Amare freeing up 35+mil in cap space to build around Melo after the trade was made.

That's in 2016. Denver might not be in the lottery

The Knicks gave up so much for Melo they might as well keep him and give him whatever he wants

Sucks but it is what it is

Would Melo be the first star player?
