And you wonder why the player's association waited so long before crafting a response lol
I'll always respect LJ as a Knick, but he really needs to think before he comments.

What a dumb idea. I'm surprised this is coming from LJ.

If I remember correctly he got heat for another comment during one of the Knicks 90s playoff runs

I could see why Larry isn't going to be a successful businessman. It was an incredibly dumb comment on his part and I expect him to lose his job because of it.

During the 1999 NBA Finals between the Knicks and Spurs, Johnson caused a stir by saying: “We’ve got a lot of rebellious slaves on this [Knicks] team.”
so here is what phil is thinking ....

LJ has always been more of a black nationalist- I don't think it's the same as Sterlings crap to be honest. The racial make up of ownership vs players isn't remotely fair. Sure, I think it would be great if race didn't play a part in people's roles in the nba (or life), but it does- I guess it comes down to do you commit yourself to a long, slow process with no guarantee of success, or do you assume ultimately things won't change or won't change quick enough and do something more radical- that's where he's coming from, whether you agree with him or not.

i think racism can only be "treated" and "managed" and never actually cured. but if any nation can find a "cure" for racism it's america.

i like your statement about "long, slow process with no guarantee of success" because that seems realistic to me. because it's when people set up unrealistic expectations that we simply feed the problem.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

It sounded to me like Larry was trying to say more Blacks needed to OWN teams and thus have more power and control over conditions and treatment. I doubt that he was calling for simply a league with just black players. No one is that stupid. He just did a bad job of expressing what he was trying to say I think.

Race is always a touchy subject. It may sound crazy but back when segregation forced Blacks to own their own businesses in every area, they were doing very well. Just look at how things turned out in Tulsa and what they called "Black Wall Street".
The Dollar turned over within that Black community more than 6 times before leaving the community. They had professionals of all kinds, owned hotels, movie theaters, Air Planes!!! It was of course destroyed by racist Whites but it was a very successful community that was built on self reliance. Every since then Blacks have scratched out a very tough life at the bottom of just about every metric of American Society. If you don't know go look up "Black Wall Street".

I think his comments are stronger than racial pride--I'd like to think it's just a momentary lapse of judgment because he was upset and that a retracted statement will make good there.. I think over time there will be more African American owners to balance the ratio now but to be fair to the current owners--I have a hard time believing anyone else has the same views as Sterling. Sterling is a proven bigot over a long period of time that reaches out to his core business's. He'd be wise to *cash in * here and move on. Like C Barkley said--wow your going to be penalizing him by giving him a billion for his franchise but thats the way it is.

But that's not what he said. Are you giving sterling the benefit of a doubt too? I lost a lot of respect for one of my favorite players. I don't tolerate racists of any kind.

I feel like I knew what he was trying to say and if that were the case, I'd agree with him. Black people need to do a better job of building wealth and in keeping as much of it as possible within our communities. There is so much talent that exists and has existed, yet others have been the ones who have profiteered from it.

I remember reading a statistic that articulated for every dollar spent by an African American, only $0.10 remains in the hands of another African American. Meanwhile, for every dollar a Jew spends, $0.70 remains in the hands of another Jew. That has to be the model we follow as a fellow minority and the only way to accomplish that is to build a better business infrastructure that is also more mainstream. Money talks and is exactly why narratives develop of us that are often adversarial and antagonistic. For example, when Blacks access social programs, they are perceived as "takers", "lazy", etc. AUIPAC lobbies our government to send billions of dollars to Isreal, the most of any country, and all they are are "God's people" and "loyal friends" who share a mutual interest with our great nation. The point is that making money in the right industries is key to all of this.

Back to Larry, he needs to realize that he's in a public forum and express himself accordingly. I'm sure he's going to have to issue an apology and he needs to better articulate himself in it.

Go get those Jews! lol, your post is borderline anti-semetic.

As for LJ's comments, I don't know if self-segregation or separatism is really going to help race relations
