Kobe was a selfish chucker. He did not play correct basketball and that is not what I want him to teach. Hard to teach players to be all defense but you can teach them proper ball movement. He avg'd 4.8 assists, 4.5 before the last 2 bloated years.

Wade avg'd 6 assists per and was/is super efficient. Much more my type of 2 guard.

Because Phil empowered him. PHil fueled his leadership and taught him to take over. Kobe had ownership when he did this. Kobe has not gotten along with Tomjanovich, Brown, or MDA. Just Phil.

You replied with a silly comment about him being a ball hog as if that overrides everything else he brought to the table. Robman didn't win his championships as the best player on the team or looked at as one of the leaders.

Kobe is also known for one of the best work ethics and one of the most dedicated to the game of basketball, I guess these things also don't matter because he was a ball hog at times.

He also came out of high school and didn't the amount of PT that Wade did his first 2 yrs in the league.

That is far from the truth. He did not get along with Jackson at all. Jackson begged Kupcheck to trade him numerous times and I believe that he stated in his book that he actually gave mitch an ultimatum of "him or me" a couple of times.

Kobe broke plays often and infuriated jackson. And, he was not close to the Lebron's, Durants, Jordan, Wades, NASH's, efficiency. He was a high volume and avg percentage shooter that was one of the best of all time at creating his own (often bad) shots.

He was good enough at creating to average 8-9 assists a game but he was not willing to give up his shots often enough.

He had that crazy fire and will to win (even if that cost him many times) and he was perhaps even a better defender than jordan.

I personally think that he would make a horrible GM. Not the even keel personality that is balanced and rational that a GM would need.

IM thinking the second time Phil came back, after the book, and when Kobe was more mature and receptive.

Kobe has had ownwership in teams in Italy. Didn't he talk about playing there sometime?

I can see him more a Magic Johnson type and wants to be a business mogul and perhaps an owner, or partner.

His selfishness and narcissistic personality was very prevalent as a ballplayer and as a person. These do not translate into leadership roles where its not all about you and you don't have the ball.

jordan won 6 titles, 6 time finals mvp. he has been quite below avg so far making decisions in cha and washington. i think thats the point regarding kobe. the titles and playing career accolades may mean nothing in terms of running a team

Jordan was handed the GM job and made moves with him making a comeback in mind in Washington. I was thinking Kobe could be groomed for a position not directly given the GM position.

and charlotte? not that i agree with the blizzards assessment... the main point remains. just because you were a great player has zero bearing on being a competent gm or a coach -- being a winner/elite as a player doesnt mean you will know how to build a team to do that or coach others effectively.

Aside from that point. Usually coaches and GM's were "team" players not selfish ones.
