Barring a late-season collapse, Warriors coach Mark Jackson will guide Golden State to its second straight playoff berth. But if the team doesn’t advance at least to the second round, there’s a distinct chance he could be a coaching free agent and available if new president Phil Jackson wants him.

Rumors he has worn out his welcome with Golden State owner Joe Lacob abound because of Jackson’ s headstrong personality. The Warriors sit in sixth place in the West, but are only two games out of the ninth seed at 45-28 after losing to the Knicks, 89-84, Sunday night.

Jackson, in his third season as head coach after a successful stint as a national broadcaster, has guided the Warriors to consecutive 45-win seasons for the first time since the mid-1970s. Stephen Curry swears by Jackson and made over-the-top supportive remarks about him in recent days — remarks Carmelo Anthony hasn’t come close to uttering about lame duck Mike Woodson.

But Jackson is viewed in some circles as a lame duck. He has one year left on his pact but there have been no contract-extension talks, and tension reportedly exists between him and the front office. His latest tiff with assistant coach Brian Scalabrine, whom he demoted to work with the D-League team, created something of a national stir. Scalabrine apparently wanted too much say in matters.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Pass. MJax always sounded a bit slow when he was a commentator.
And as has been reported in other threads, having pee fights with your doofus assistant coach is too Nyet-ish for my tastes.

part of me wants to decline for the reasons jrod mentioned - however - MJax would get outranked substantially by Big Chief Triangle.

Give me Jax as head coach and Steve Kerr as Tex Winter Pt II. That would be swell

Here we go again thinking of bringing on people that have no true loyalty with the Knicks franchise....Steve Kerr???

Jackson was my choice before Danphoney came aboard, I say NO to Ewing.

When Charlotte's coach got ejected from the game against the Knicks Ewing looked clueless when he stepped in as the coach. He only got coaching jobs from the Vandummy clan(Stan and Jeff who he helped become the coach of the knicks- It's why Stan hired him in Orlando ) and his boy Jordan looked out for him. We need someone who wore the blue orange and white , but also who knows what they are doing and can handle the media expectations.

What was up w/ MSG showing that clip of MJax talking about his team? I missed whatever preceded that, but assumed it was about his job security there.

I'd take him, unless Thibs is an actually possibility. He seems like the type that can handle strong personalities, though his X's and O's knowledge seem to be in question from what I've read.

It's like re-hiring mike Woodson with slightly better ability to hold players accountable. Might as well keep Woodson

Phil wants a coach with a system and ability to get his players to execute x's & o's

Hiring Mark is like Walsh hiring Dantoni

Then we can bring in some more mismatch parts to complete the circle

Who is steve Kerr? 5 rings, role player, over comes adversity in college from injury and his father murdered (Look it up, you'll get excited over the intrigue circumstance).

YOu want guys that set the bar high to win. He understands winning.
You want a guy with rings? Pop, Larry, PHil and Doc are your only guys coaching.

Mark Jax is a nice rah rah guy but that evangelical style I perceive won't jive with the ZenMaster's direction.

Being from NY don't mean a thing.

Kerr has the perspective of front office advising PHX and being its GM. NO, he did not build a powerhouse but some of you would be good to know he was the guy that booted MDA. Was the smart guy who advised to not resign Amare.

You want fresh blook we can't keep digging up retreads. MJax is not a retread but the smoke coming out of Golden State is not positive and where's there smoke..............

I like Action Jackson but I don't think he will match well with Big Chief Triangle. If we are using the triangle offense then I want a triangle offense coach. If it is Steve Kerr then so be it.

Phil kind of outsourced the triangle to Tex at first (until Phil mastered it himself) and Phil focused on the big picture, maximizing his talent, and demanded defense. I think Shimmy, Shimmy could pull the same thing off

he's better than woody for sure, but we still need to see if he's the best option out there.
Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree

Remind me again why we need Former Knicks, that never won any championships, to coach us again? We need to hire an exceptional coach, regardless of what franchise he played for. You think if we hire Steve Kerr, he's going to sabotages his own team when we play the Bulls or the Spurs? By the way, the best teams we witnessed here in NY in over 4 decades was coached by a Laker.....

I think that fans are looking for a black ex knick.

Starks, Oak, Mase, BLACKmon. Ron Harper (not bad), G Anthony? Landry Fields (he's black enough)? OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOohhhhoooooohhh I gut one, how about Ewing? David Buter?

Let Phil do his job.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

What loyalty has Mark Jackson demonstrated to the Knicks? The dude played with us for part of his rookie contract. I don't think that makes him Knick royalty. Even if it did, it doesn't mean that he is qualified for what we want to do. Pass!
