With the details of the Clips trade offer coming out, Collison, Mullens, Barnes and 2 second rounders for Shump, Beno and Ray the fact that Shump was allowed on the court that night and the deal collapsed falls on Mills. Shump is done in Ny. Knicks make out like bandits with that deal. Cap relief and an upgrade for Ray, second round picks and a 7 footer that can be very effective when used the right way. Unbelieveable. Mills has told Woodson who to play in the past and how many minutes guys can play etc. This one is on him and it was a huge blunder made by a guy that doesn't have experience in the job.

Also, Barnes is a good perimeter defender and a better offensive player at this point then Shump. Shump might have flourished under Doc but he isn't going to flourish in NY.

Not really. Actually, I would have just gave in and kept Felton and use him as a back up. The thought process to want to dump Felton's salary to take back Barnes salary with an extra year is beyond stupid given Barnes age.

Marty Kahn for GM.

This might be the loss that Mills fires Woodson for. With the details of this deal coming out things could get hot for him. Doing the inevitable might take the heat off a bit as a knowledgeable fan base is sure to react to his mishandling of the trade deadline and blowing the clips deal.

Woodson is safe for the rest of the season I think. What's the point of firing him now? How many false alarms have we had this season where we thought he was gonna get fired and nothing happened? Too many to count. This man could do naked cartwheels on the sidelines instead of coaching the team and he wouldn't be fired.

I doubt it. It would be nice if Woody fell on the sword. Who or another poster posted how the knicks did not extend the assistants which points in the direction that Woody is gone at the end of the year.

Brutal mistake on mills part. Could be the difference between signing one or two max guys. Could be the difference between melo staying and going.

If that was on the table the trade shoulda been made and they should rolled with just priggy and toure for the night. Absolutely horrible. I really pray that wasn't a real trade proposal.

Yellowboy said it was confirmed by another source. Also, salaries work in trade checker.

Sounds about right. This team's front office is a laughing stock.

Maybe Knicks thought they could get more over the summer?

With Melo in limbo, perhaps best to keep options open.

this season is lost. Collison is not that good BTW!

Gotta disagree. This is a classic over value of their own player by the Knicks. Unless he really shows something the last month of the season when he comes back that is by far the best they'll get. This team makes me sick.

But that is what they were banking on. Actually Collinson is a good player and a really good back up and given the KNicks situation he would be light years ahead of the pgs here because he can apply pressure and fight over screens. Throw on top of that he shoots it well and you have a big difference.

The real problem is the thinking that you need to dump salary for worse salary and play an asset when you are close to a deal. Also, Toure'e Murry agent just wrote a interesting article how 2nd round picks are like gold under the new cba.

We can't lose it over bench players..Our roster is littered with bench guys..Adding three more doesn't help us..Shump is more valuable than that..We need a starter, at PG is preferable..If anything Mills showing restraint and not getting sucked into the usual Knick panic trade is commendable...

So Shump, Beno, and Ray all shouldn't have been played that game?
Dolan's not going to fire the GM every 5 months.

Mills is not the GM

He is the puppet to Dolan, Dolan is the GM

How does that trade favor us? Collinson is on the first year of a 2 year deal that us going to opt out of this offseason- this means we would have no advantage in re-signing him as we wouldn't have his bird rights. If you want him that badly we can throw the whole 3mil MLE at him in the offseason. We don't need cap relief for Felton- just use the stretch provision in 2015 and he only counts for $1.5mil. Mullens? We have enough one way players who don't defend or rebound. And if you want some second rounders, the Sixers have about 9 this draft- they have to sell some of them.

At this point, if all you can get for Shump is 2 low second rounders, you may as well give him the offseason and a new coach to get his **** together- this is his worst season by far, why sell low?

If we had made the trade, we'd have no Shump and no PGs (no Felton, prigs will be past it and Collinson would have walked) and only the MMLE to fix the roster.

You're focusing on just the LA side but even that deal is ok because In reality Shump has played like a low level nba player. Is that system related, who knows. However the OKC deal was the one to go after. Maybe it will be their in the summer but it is interesting that he has value. I can just imagine what teams think about Hardaway.
