Let's say Melo takes a pay cut and the Knicks try to re-build the team with some FAs in 2015. What would be your course of action? Would you go for Love? I actually don't seem him and Melo meshing. If we could lure Rondo away from Boston and find a way to snatch Asik, I think you get some lower volume shooters who might be able to blend in the offense. Then, hopefully one of our SG develops and we have a pretty solid team. So, let me hear it. Whatcha thinking?

I think KLove would be the perfect compliment but Love would more than likely head to LA..

I'm still trying to figure out why we aren't trying to get under the cap for next season.

I'd pursue Marc Gasol and Mike Conley, which would leave some money to add quality role players. If we went for the starphuch, it would be Rondo and Kevin Love but Love and Melo are both 4's and Rondo will be a 30 year old who will have lost a step. Ideally, I think we should trade Melo to get as many assets as we can get. Then pursue Gasol, Love and Conley.

I know they are targeting Love and Rondo. I am not sure who else is available. Also, it will depend on who they take in the draft in 15 and what they do this offseason. I do think some moves will be made. Minimally Udrih will be moved. Maybe that gets a pick.

He becomes an UFA in 2016. I do agree with you that we need to target him though. If we include 2016 into the equation, my ideal would be Marc Gasol, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, along with the assets from a Melo trade.

I'm starting to lose faith they can ever turn it around with Dolan as owner. All they had to do was wait the lockout shortened yr and they coulda got whoever they wanted around Melo since they clearly woulda Amnestied Amare when he got hurt again, but nope. They f'd it up. If Melo leaves I really can't see anybody signing here. If he stays I still struggle to see how they will build a balanced roster given that they haven't made any really smart moves in like 20 years.

Kevin Love 15-17m or/and LaMarcus Aldridge *though unlikely because of the success Portland is having this year, he likely will resign an extension*

Dragic 7-8m or/and Lin 4-5m

Rudy Gay 8-12m

Tim Duncan vet min with player option for 2nd year *but allowing him to retire after 1st year and keep 2nd year's pay*, while promising him a HIGH paying future coaching position

room exemption to target players

WITH MLE
possibly target a PG this summer or Trevor Ariza at G/F

PG's like Sessions, Bayless, Vasquez, Mo Williams

vet mins this year summer

Patty Mills/Bobby Brown, James Johnson

Rudy Gay is a cancer. Why do you like him so much? And why do you think Tim Duncan would sign here? He's given no indication that he wants to leave SA and I doubt the prospects of playing with Kevin Love and a chuck like Rudy Gay will change that.

Why would Love or Aldrich sign here for so little? Factoring taxes your talking about them only being offered in the range of 13 mil or less from many other teams in the league for them to consider coming here. I don't really see how in the world that would happen.

Because they don't love money more than they hate losing???...They are not selfish and egotistical..They are not of low character...At least that's what another poster told me...

Factoring in federal taxes and agent fees, I would imagine that the figure would be close to halved.

I'll say LA, bc he can play Center or PF. But we need a PG first and foremost. This is the year we need to get under the cap. Again don't know how but this year is probably players the best free agents that will work well with Melo. Not 2015 FA class.

On Love and Aldridge

in 2014, their salaries would be about 15m each, with a raise, their MAX they are eligible to sign for is starting salary of about 17million
That is why I am so against the Knick's paying anything close to a MAX deal for MELO which would be in the range of 25-30m
A MAX deal for one player could be much HIGHER than another player

On Rudy Gay because I think he is still very talented and if he could team up with the right players, we could use his versatility
Like JR Smith, he is one of those players but he has the physical tools to play SG, SF, and SF/PF
He has the ability to rebound, play DEFENSE, excel in a uptempo system, could post up, could beat his man off the dribble, and would be a tough cover if everyone else can hold score, spreading the floor

Also because his "value" has dropped much, he has a chance to drop much and could be a steal

On Duncan, yes, I think we need a LEADER, and he would provide just that, along with a future coach, thus offering him a HIGH PAYING future coaching job
He simply knows how to win on both ends, on both DEF and OFF, with TEAM BALL, and his fundamentals/work ethics would surely help development
