said he doesn't need a max contract because he could retire now and be set. says he will test free-agency in an effort to help recruit players to the knicks. sounded to me like he had no interest in leaving.

How is testing free agency going to recruit players to the Knicks? He's an FA in a year we have no cap space

If he can collaborate with some guys he can cheat a little and get some talent here. He can't do that while under contract.

What makes me mad is the knicks aren't trying to help that effort. Waiting for 2015 sucks ****aroach dick

Sounds a bit weird, but if you're going by the book, if Melo and player X were both under contract for their respective teams, his recruitment could technically be considered tampering, yes?

Just speculation, did not hear the quote from Melo, nor do I believe that doesn't happen all the time among players.

Now that's funny, I thought the current champs were built on the premise that you don't need cap space, you just need to take less as a player to get chips...

He doesn't need the max to play for another team. He really does not know what he wants to do. Thats a true statement. He just wants to win and its up to CAA and the knicks to make that happen

Tampering can only be done by management. Players can talk to each other and make plans with each other regardless of their contract situation.

Q. jrodmc - what if he doesn't sign here for max money?

You mean signs somewhere else for max money? I'd rather trade him but that would be better than paying him $30 mil a seaason

Sounds like he might have a career in politics.......

He is right, if he leaves and "tests" his money falls off our cap and he can recruit other players to the knicks......
In his place!

He got it covered.

either that or he is confused moron

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

You guys are giving Melo too much credit. He flat out sounds like a fool every time he does these extended interviews. The one before the season and the Lin one to name a few

Listening to the Michael Kay show and those guys are baffled by what he said in that interview. So am I, he really was all over the map...Kay first talked about the "testing free agency to help the Knicks" comment, saying Melo's response didn't make any sense, that maybe he misunderstood the question that was asked...Kay then saying that although he's playing more mins. than last year, that he's only up to 38 and change, only about 2 more mins than last year, and that's not enough where he should be worn out to the point where he's been as ineffective as he has been in the 4th quarter this season. Don LaGreca saying that the 2+ more mins per game does make a difference and shows how much more they're relying on him this year over last year....Next, Kay mentioned that he doesn't know if Melo could be a number 1 guy on a team anymore; that maybe he'd be better suited as a #2 guy now, as a "Russell Westbrook to a Kevin Durant." I don't agree and don't think that's a fair assessment... I don't attibute much of this team's failure to Carmelo Anthony. He simple carries way too much of the responsibility this year & had a much better supporting cast last year, soup to nuts -- until the end of the year at least when some of the older guys bowed out to injuries and started showing their age, until JR Smith had his meltdown in the playoffs, etc.. This year's team -- not many of the 2nd banana guys (Chandler, JR Smith specifically) are up for the challenge at all. That's the deal right there -- not that Melo can't still be a lead guy--clearly he can. It's that he doesn't have bonafide #2 & #3 type guys around to help him. Even the #4, #5 guys (Felton, Shumpert) have woefully underperformed. Bargnani's been ineffective as well & recently has missed substantial time due to injury...Amar'e/Martin have generally been effective but those guys can't go more than a week w/o getting hurt...How is any of this Melo's fault?

Knick fans want to win period. I dont really care about Melo's money situation because like he said he is set for the rest of his life and probably his kids lives. All i care about in this situation is the Knicks finally winning fir more than 1 seaon every 15 years
