Dude looked like Kobe lite when he first came out. Today, he's little more than a catch and shoot player that can play defense. I still find myself thinking that he can be a star, if provided the right situation, but that is clearly a reach at this point.

I think he realized he made a big mistake going to the bucks. And I will say I thought he was going to be the next big thing as well. It goes to show you this league is more then about talent and skill, you have to bring your game to the next level in this league

Looking at him play and during interviews (and this is kinda coming from my ass), I get the impression that he is depressed. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the problem because he is extremely skilled and a very smart basketball player. The tools are there and he should be playing better than he is.

I would to. I was hoping we could've used Shumpert as bait for him (and figured out a way to get Paul Millsap; assuming we couldn't get Afflalo and company) during the offseason. I think the guy might be depressed, so maybe NY might not be the best fit for him but I do hope he turns it around.

funny you say depressed. People expect these guys to be robots. I guess a few million bucks in the bank and you no long have feelings? I agree.. this guy needs a change. We have seen scenery changes reboot guy's careers, I would take a buy low risk on OJ bigtime.

Well he's paid about ten times what he's worth. I guess we could have the joy of seeing him waste Dolan's money.

he has some game and some polish... I just don't think he is or was ever as athletic as he was advertised

True but the Paul Pierce's of the world lost their athleticism ages ago and were still all-star caliber talents. Are things different because of Mayo's lack of size, his position, his mental makeup, etc.? Right now, I can't figure out a reason why, especially when you consider his stellar rookie and sophomore seasons.

Truth. It must be difficult to go from being touted as a future perennially all-star to bouncing around the league, looking to turn water into wine in a place like Milwaukee. That's not even factoring the off-court issues that might be plaguing him. Like I said, it's kinda coming from my ass but Mayo has seemed out of it since his 3rd season in Memphis. I really think he could be clinically depressed.

I bought into it. Thought Minny was foolish trading him for Kevin Love.

As did I. There was no way to predict that Love would stop being a porker. Getting his diet under control changed his entire career trajectory.

I don't think his athleticism was ever elite. Maybe in HS but it never turned into, say, Russell Westbrook. Mayo is a small SG

But he can shoot the ball and has pretty good ball handling skills. Getting his shot shouldn't be a problem, especially when you look back on his first two years in Memphis. And he has always been known as a dogged defender. If I'm not mistaken, he was known for locking up Derrick Rose in college. I don't think he was all hype like some seem to be suggesting.

hence why I gave him credit for having polish
