Number 1 overall pick from last
Bennett has been a DNP-CD in four straight games. The No. 1 pick in last year's draft is averaging 2.4 points on 26.9 percent shooting this season.

Is this a cautionary tale for the rebuild through the draft or did Cleveland just screw it up?

darko-milicicing like this happens in the draft once in a while; that doesn't mean you stop trying. rebuilding through the draft is possible and it does take a little luck, but at least you have a really good chance to get good talent. the knicks drafted well for the most part the last few years.

Clevelan drafted a power forward with the intention of converting him into a small forward. A guy who only played one year of college to boot. It took Larry Johnson, who was far more skilled than Bennett and had more college experience, years to make that transition in the pros. The teams should have just picked Oladipo. Dipo may not end up as the best player in this class, but everybody agreed that he was surefire pro who already played NBA defense. I think Bennett will still be good, but he was the wrong fit for that franchise.

Larry Johnsnon was an allstar explosive player before he became a 4.

Bennett came in with some health problems and 41 games into his rookie campaign does not indict his career, nor the notion of rebuilding thru a draft process.

It was a bad draft and 41 games in does not make a career.

Im sure Cav's are disappointed but in every draft there are winners and losers. Sometimes it takes 3 years to sort out how a draft went.

We're 15-26, are 11th in the conference and 25th in the league.

Is this a cautionary tale for not rebuilding through the draft or did we just screw it up?

It ain't like the current system of roster construction is working too well.
My take is we are in too deep to blow it up. You can't blow it up unless you have your own pick and have a youthful core to learn.

Philly is playing its utes which does two things: develops what you got and week out the rest and increases value of assets if they pan out. You can trade them or play them. Bring in Noel, draft another blue chip prospect, keep your optons open on Evan Turner (they can match what he gets) and still have room for FA signings.

GS rebuild using cap space, draft and trades.
Its not all or nothing.

It's a cautionary tale if your franchise is brain-dead like the Cavs.

Is it better to take a risk and lose or take on sure things like Eddy and give up unknown picks?

What is a brain dead franchise? One who did heed the warning of their home grown star who could leave after 5 years of great service or one who traded nearly every asset they had for 2.5 years and perhaps gave up a lottery pick that very year?

Its like if you with an ugly girl, don't be talking about another mans women who might not be as ugly as yours!

Knicks are brain dead and squander opportunity as good as any bad franchise! Cav's at least had to fortitude to not trade the pick that became Lebron.

I get your point. It's a bit hypocritical to be a Knick fan and then criticize other franchises. But still, I feel like the Cavs had a lot more go their way and they managed to screw it up. We never had a chance to draft players with our picks because management traded them away. Meanwhile, the Cavs kept their picks and botched every single one that didn't have a gift-wrapped star waiting for them (I.e. Kyrie Irving and LeBron James).

I'd actually consider that. People are ****ting on Bennett but he looked good in a preseason game I saw and then there is obviously his college career. I don't think the guy will ever be a starter but I could see him being the 21st century version of Rodney Rogers (aka a very good bench player). He just needs to play for a franchise, other than the Cavs and Mike Brown, who is an awful coach.

Mike Sweetney wished he was in Greece. Last I heard, he was playing for some bum ass Puerto Rican league and I doubt he's even playing anymore. And this dude is only 32 years old or so. It's ridiculous how far he let himself fall.

The Cavs took Bennett to appease the league like Toronto did with Bargiani..... a International move.

This kid has an asthma pronlem and can't run for too long at a time.

Picking Oladipo would have given Kyrie Irving a reason to leave after rookie contract, and Cleveland had a proven pg already on board.

The politics of the NBA...it never ends.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Lets be fair---drafting a 6-8 240 pd hybrid forward who was hurt had health issues beyond his shoulder was not the prototypical #1 pick--in fact there was no number 1 pick---although it looks like atleast 1-2 franchise type players might come out of it.

He was picked too high. He's out of shape and has lost all his confidence. Really they need to start from scratch with him, get him on a fitness programme for a few weeks then assign him to d league. Does he have the work ethic? No idea, but if he doesn't he's screwed.

The asthma doesn't mean anything, Roy Hibbert has asthma and that hasn't stopped him.
