how does any self respecting hoops person look at this team and see Melo as the problem?

Our starting backcourt vs. the Nets:
Prigo 0-3 FGs 2 asists 3 TOs
Felton 2-11 FGs
Shump 2-8 FGs

Melo is the only one working hard. Why everyone else is a chump I do not understand. It's really weird. Melo is playing better tan last season.

i have to chime in here b/c i have no self respect.

melo is going to be a $25-30 mil/year scorer. he does not lift the play of his teammates. he can score like a madman but he just continues to do his thing - it's really his teammates that decide a win or loss.

and it's pretty clear that in tough situations, he's not a team galvanizer or leader.

so, is melo the problem? not on the court he's not.

but in terms of cap impact, he is not the guy you want taking up about 40% of it next year.

the team is garbage...period. it's just bad mojo from dolan. the team will never be good. never. just accept it.

Its hard to blame Woody on Melo's minutes when the only guys who are + are Melo, KMart and Shump. I guess Shump does enough other things on the floor. KMart has played well and Melo is Melo. Yikes.

what really scary is how bad they are with him off the court.

Can't blame Melo. He's rebounding, playing D and scoring, although, not at his most efficient rate. But who is he playing with?

Tyson

That has to be the worst starting 5 in all of basketball. As it is constructed, I don't see it getting any better by resigning him. Trade that whole group and start over. Can't afford Melo. Don't need or want the rest

There's no such thing as "the" problem. There's just a list of problems. Searching for "the" problem is a naive, oversimplified outlook. If we had a top 5 player in the league instead of Melo, we'd be better but still bad. Or if we just kept our cap room and hadn't done the Melo trade, we'd at least have a lottery pick.

I was going to agree with you fish, but I suspect part of the real problem with this roster is they know Melo is leaving. His all free agent thing is a dark cloud hanging over everyone, and thus, none of his team mates are really trying that hard.

Granted- there's been injuries and everything else.

If I were to assign a percentage - I would say 20% of the poor performance is due to this factor - the other 40% on injuries, 20% on the ill fitting roster of players and the other 20% on Woodson having regressed as a coach.

dolan fired the guy that brought them all here after a 54 win season and before training camp.
melo saying he wasn't to be a FA.
then dolan saying he expects this team to win it all.

unnecessary pressure coming from within - as if they already don't have it with media + fans.

It's not that they see Melo as a problem in itself,

it's that they don't see him as a solution.

And when you blow the kitty up in forcing a trade, when you're payed fat max cash, when you present yourself as one thing but are completely unaware that you are entirely a different thing,

then you're gonna get the flack.

was hea solution last year? Seemed like a pretty good solution to me then.

Jettison Melo and what problem does that solve? You still have the same crappy roster, same crappier front office and same crappy coach. Except now you have nobody on the roster than can win NBA games. Didnt we go through 10+ years of that?

I must say that while there are times that I look at Melo and think that he is a big reason for the team's troubles, I do not think he is at fault here. He does bring the effort every night so far this season. He may not have the best BBall IQ but he is trying.

What he needs is what we have been saying for years. He needs a leader at PG playing with him.

That is why, I think they should make a hard push for Rondo, If they are serious about resigning him.

you see carmelo as not being the problem.. ok.. well I see him as not being the solution or part of it.. and for me, that is a PROBLEM...

thats far from the truth.. felton plays hard, as does shumpert and chandler.. those guys are just limited... actually they may play harder as they give an effort on defense as well..

fish, we are bad with him on the court as well.. degrees of badness doesn't matter right now with a bloated payroll... bad is bad... it needs to be flushed and restarted..

so is it fair to say look who those guys are playing with.. I have no doubt if they are playing with lebron, or durant or paul the knicks would be in better shape..
