Warriors:

Drafted Curry, Thompson and Barnes

Free agent signing of Iggy

Used cap space to sign and trade for Dlee

Exiled Monta Ellis for Bogut

Has been patient with BOgut and curry to heal.

Took risks, including Mark Jax.

They have a rabid loyal fanbase that stuck with it. The new owners laid out a plan and sold it to fans, and coach Jax.

IN contrast Dolan does not like to take risks, is not patient, won't lay out a transparent plan and burns thru coach's.
Dolan inflames fan base with lack of tranparancy. Revenue does not suffer so he can get away with it.

Sorry to turn the conversation back on dolan but the Warriors just have been impressive in how new owership turned things around on and off the court. There roster is mix of youth, some veterans and free agency! A very balanced approach!

Sacremento is very early with new ownership but that franchise had one foot out the door and got saved at the last minute. They are making interesting roster moves as well. Fans seem to have responded well like Golden State to the transparency the owners allow fans to see. ITs fun to see franchises succeed with enthusiastic fans! We saw it in Memphis recently as well! The CBA is brings parity and the clever teams are out in front of the change.

There is a good chance the Knicks draft Curry if GS passed him up.

He would've been traded in the Melo deal. Dolan wouldn't have had patience through his injuries.

^^ Better than good chance...t'was a sure thing. This underscores the reason it's risky to try going thru the draft: One slot difference in pick and you don't get the talent you want. It's really based on luck.

What I hate about the new cba is rather than reap the rewards and build a dynasty, the Warriors will actually have to probably lose one or two of their young players for cap reasons- can't pay Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes. Same thing with the Thunder having to give up Harden. Pacers might have to lose Lance Stephenson. But then again those owners were the ones pushing for the new cba crap, so I suppose they deserve it.

...and then we would've been able to keep other players we traded (e.g. Gallo, Wilson and/or Mozgov)....to then trade them in other deals, lol.

I totally agree. They really pulled their act together; even so, that they have become my favorite team. I disagree about Dolan not taking risks. It seems that all we do are take risks and lose big e.g. the Eddy Curry trade (even though he potentially had a heart disorder), the Tracy McGrady deal for draft picks (even though we could've easily waited to the offseason to move Jefferies' contract), signing Amar'e to a max deal (even though every one and their mother knew that dude was going to break down), etc.

Im not sure curry would have survived the media crush and the doubts about his health.
Maybe the kid winces in pain and Dolan things he is making faces at him and has him banished!

Sure one spot on the draft can make a big difference but we all know not dice roll will go your way.

My point is GS seems to be built one part draft, one part free agency, and one part via trades!!!!!!
Risks were taken. Granted we took one with Dice and Amare but either keep rolling the dice or take more bets and increase the odds!

My philosphy in business is to make many small decisons and when well researched and thought out you increase your odds. Thats why I say "luck is when preperation and opportunity collide"!!!! With the knicks I don't prescribe that you go all in on one area as many things are not in the teams control. The teams that balance things create more opportunities when presented. When you telegraph your intentions as we all know we did to get lebron, we got fleeced because the dummy owner was dictating his intenetions and Walsh had little leverage.

I thought the rockets did a nice job using draft assets and cap space to prepare for the opportunity to gain Harden and Dwight via trade.

While new CBA prevents dynasties it can prolong some as well. OKC by its trade enables it to recieve assets in return for unaffordable players. its their choice how then handle it. Like the NFL they can go all in and pay big tax for a run in a chip, or keep building toward one.

Its better for the league in the long run. Teams in small markets seem to be on the rise while Lakers, Knicks, Boston are in decline. Lakers and boston at least get some bang for their buck.

Granger falls off the cap and they can resign Stephanson. If his value on the open market is too high, well then another team that made cap can grab him. Creates parity.

We all know big market does not mean success. Lakers used it well but post Jordan Era Bulls have been mixed and the knicks we know have more money then sense!!!

Exactly! Well said. It's the main reason why, as a Knick fan, I'd prefer to start from scratch, utilizing your philosophy about a multi-faceted approach. It is, after all, how all the successful teams do it. The Warriors were never truly awful but they still made their picks count (Curry at 8th, Thompson at 13th, Barnes at 6th and a slew of rotation players picked late in the first round e.g. Fetus Ezlei, Kent Bazemore, Draymond Green, etc.). When building a team, you should always start from there and then use your cap space and trades to add flesh to this core (e.g. a David Lee, Andrew Bogut and Andre Igoudala).

Watchout for the sacramento kings too....they look very dangerous now. If they can keep Gay, Thomas, McLemore and Cousins together and find their missing piece, they will be really good as well

I don't know...with the way we caved and just added whoever the Nuggets asked for (wish we sent Fields instead of one of those guys), I wouldn't be surprised if we sent those guys with Curry.

Shoutout to the bucks too....

They have Henson and sanders as their 4-5...they have that nasty rookie Giannis Antetokounmpo that looks like he wants to be a star one day...Brandon Knight seems to have found his game too. They still have OJ Mayo also. They have a fun mix of players to follow.

This is exactly right. Drafting one slot higher may have changed our fortunes by getting curry. We landing hill then gave him away. Golden state was deciding between both players. The draft is really a crapshoot.

IMO, the risk GS took with the Ellis for Bogut trade was less than the risks the Knicks took on the Amar'e signing and the McDyess trade. Bogut's injuries were fairly straightforward compared to Amar'e and McDyess's injuries. GS took a risk on Bogut's play, yes, but not a big risk on his health. It's also worth noting that GS's contracts are not crazy. Even if the current team ends up, say, losing to OKC in the playoffs, they have the pieces/contracts to rework the team next year. Perhaps the one big mistake GS has made recently was letting Lin go. He'd be very useful on the bench behind Curry this year.

A crap shoot would imply that teams each pick the same ratio of busts and boons but that isn't the case. Teams like the Spurs crank out stars and rotation players like clockwork, whereas teams like the Cavs or Bobcats consistently pick busts. There is an art to drafting players that transforms it into a science, instead of a crap shoot.

Rudy Gay is a bum. They'll figure that out, once the novelty wears off. I do like the talent they have though but they need to move Marcus Thorton and Rudy Gay and develop Derrick Williams and Jimmer Fredette.

Fredette was being developed but he sucks . Isaiah Thomas is the one that rose to the top and that's the guys that's currently killing the league right now.

Derrick Williams might just end up being a reserve fwd for them. Marcus Thorton is a good player. He still has a role there if they chose to keep him. They need a power fwd to protect Cousins.

They have a nice core group though....Gay totally tanked in Toronto. He was good in Memphis. He might be a douche, but if the team is good he will stay focused. I dunno who is out there for them but if they were to get a real power fwd to protect Cousins out there they will be a force in the West.

I agree, the Kings have crazy talent but . . . the most important piece right now might be Michael Malone. I'm not sure he can turn them into a winning team this year but he's clearly turning the corner with some of the rather woefully ill-coached/ill-tempered players on the Kings. Getting this group to play like a team should have the added benefit of making some of them more trade-friendly than they were when they arrived.

The knicks are right there as well, but there are at the crossroads. Do they continue to feed into the bull**** they are selling to us? Or do they look to clean up the roster and bring up these young guys that we have that are actually playing well.

Toure Murry isn't Rondo but next year he might be close. He needs legit minutes now. We can't continue to reward guys that don't deserve it. The Celtics believed in Rondo as a rookie. He was horrible often, but he grew to the piece that made everything work. The 4th cog to that big three situation. Toure Murry can be that and the Knicks need to put the kid out there and let him do his thing.

Jr Smith, Ray, Beno, Kmart, Shumpert....all thses guys failed us yet they still get treatment as if we are #2-3 seed in the east. They all should be gone in my opinion. Or at least a few of them.

Beno sucks right now...you can turn on msg and watch him stink up the court. He needs to be gone. When Ray comes back he should be Toure Murry's backup. Tim Hardaway Jr should be starting as well. JR Smith is still around to back him up. Let it ride. Jeremy Tyler needs to be thrown to the fire. He has professional experience and he has nba experience...nothing to be afraid of. He can handle himself. Send Kenyon Martin home and Start Jeremy Tyler next to Tyson and let Amare be his back up.

Woodson as a coach needs to do his job. He is riding veterans hoping they can hide the fact he sucks as a coach. These young inexperienced coaches are killing him every night. He has no ability to work an offense, motivate guys, put players in a position to succeed....it's not just oh we missed shots and they made shots....if that's the case then let me coach the team then. What the **** do we need to pay this retard millions if all they are doing is hitting and missing shots, ****ing *******

I wasn't comparing Fredette to Thomas; I was judging him on his own merit. He seems to have turned the corner recently and has made himself into an efficient rotation player. Considering that he is 24, I think he could make himself into much more especially given his skillset, which does not deteriorate with age. Williams, on the other hand, was a late bloomer in college and I think he is that in the league. He needs the latitude to make mistakes but I think he can turn himself into an Al Harrington type player once he develops some confidence.

As for Marcus Thorton, the dude is heading into his 30's and is already a finished product. What he has shown himself to be is a volume scorer that isn't good enough to be a cornerstone of a team. The same is true for Gay, who is one of the worst chucks I have ever seen. He is the only player I detest watching more than a cold JR Smith. A guy like that has no role to play on a young team in need of the ball and experience to find themselves. If they are smart, they'll move him for assets after having rehabilitated his trade value.

As for the guy Cousins needs at the PF spot, I think Larry Sanders would be perfect. As much as he is a 5, his athleticism allows him to cover 4's and Cousins' subpar help defense. I also hear that the two became friends recently, so I could see things working out well with those two on the court.
