Metta > Copeland

or

Copeland > Metta

to the disappointment of a lot of knicks fans, the knicks let copekand walk (without offering the 1.7mill left in the MLE). he was a rags to riches scoring SF built like a PF. After struggling with defense, he learned to hold his own and improved as an all around player (in my opnion). Now weve replaced him with Metta World Peace aka Ron Artest. A loquacious SF built like a truck who adds toughness, basketball IQ and defense. No hes NOT the young scorer he used to be, yes hes lost a step but he will only be asked to be a role player on this team.

my question to you all is: have the knicks upgraded at the backup SF spot?

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

When Metta retires from basketball, he will follow in Rodman's footsteps and join the WWE!

A great pick-up. Metta is obviously better than Copeland at this point.

A GM has got to keep looking to improve his team and Coach has to have players he believes in and trusts. Woody for whatever reason did not like Cope. He also didn't like Lin. To be honest Woody sees these players in practice and in the film room. Woody has to have input into his roster and I believe he has. I think he wasn't in love with Cope and that's why he's not here anymore. Now with regard to Metta it is indeed an improvement to have him over Cope. There is no question that Metta gives this team something it lacks and that is toughness and winning experience. Metta is crazy but mostly he's a really good role player that helps his teams win.

When teams score and play defense in the playoffs, we would need Copeland to help us score points. We aren't built to shut teams down, but to OUT SCORE THEM, Metta was brought here for PR purposes to make up for losing Copeland and JR's surgery.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Metta was brought here to play basketball. The PR part - to give the Knicks some headlines - in a justifiable way. Nothing wrong with that.
And for playing bball on the court, Metta outplays AK47.

Cope's legacy has grown. His legacy grew the more woodson kept him down!!!

MWP's tweets alone are worth it.

Rather have MWP!

MWP has been a below average NBA player for a few years now. Copeland would have been the better choice.

Copeland is on the up Mwp is all down hill. I saw some of the Lakers games and he played horribly he was more a defensive liability and offensively shot. Only in NY can a fan base get giddy on a past reputation of a player.

I've heard from some lakers fans that are glad he is gone. His play has really diminished they say. He still has a ton of games where he puts up 13+ shots and doesn't even finish with 20pts. If Artesst focuses on doing the little things to win then I can work. Problem I see is Woodson is going to over rely on him like he did with Kidd. Stunting the development of younger players then Artest is gonna go down and these young players will look like deer in the headlights again in the playoffs

MWP is a proven performer on championship teams. Tough. Great teammate. A winner. Albeit insane.

Cope is feel-good story, career minor leaguer who had a nice but hardly spectacular run last year. It takes a lot of faith to assume Cope is gonna turn into a consistent rotation player, and even if he does, MWP would have to decline quite a bit to be merely a legit rotation player.

This is a weird thread, imo. MWP is somewhere between a good and a great pick-up. This off season, who besides the Nets has gotten a FA so cheap who can change their team?

I guess the reaction from lakers fans must be mixed because I have heard/read from some that they felt amnestying Ron was a bad move. I think nix makes a great point about getting guys the coach is comfortable with and I think Ron fits that. I also disagree about Ron getting young guys minutes and stunting their development. I don't think other than hardaway and possibly murry, any young guy comes close cracking the Knicks rotation. The Knicks didnt have a player under 26 last year other than shump so I am not sure what you are getting at by saying guys will have a deer in the headlights look again.

The Lakers are licking their wounds right now with the loss of Honum/Byward for nothing. This coupled with Kobe's return from achilles surgery leaves them as a hot mess. They're not exactly chock full of depth, so it's not like Artest was holding someone back.

They've decided to go with the talents of Wesley Johnson... and perhaps CDR to replace MWP.

I have watched MWP and the Lakers for a couple of years on and off, they are always on as the late games

Many of us, judge by names, past performances, and qualities of the the player
By those standards, it was a great pickup, but Artest, wasn't even the same player in his 1st season as a Laker

Now, years later, he is much slower (affecting both ends of his game but especially DEF), looks lost on the court, and inconsistent with rebounds and 3pters.
HE IS an ENERGY GUY, and NO ONE CAN GIvE HIM AS MUCH ENERGY as NYC/THE GARDEN, it worked great for Lin, Novak (1st year),Wallace, and Martin, who all became fan favorites
I think he is very comparable to Kidd, where coach will expect him too much for him, over use him, because he "likes" Artest's personal qualities and will stroke his ego like JR (with him injured)
In return, the effort would ALWAYS be there by Artest, but somewhere during the next couple of weeks, when age catches back up with him, he will struggle with the team

Iman has a F that he can count on at all times,
Martin would be a great pickup back because he is a mobile/shot blocking 4/5 that would play well together
Add Tourre in that max

Murry
Iman
Metta
Martin

Could go with Melo at PF on OFF and SF on DEF or Barg's *less ball handlers if so* at PF/C

It is apples and oranges like saying Felton or Martin

but

if I had to pick, I would say Copeland but like NIX says, coach just didn't like him....

Metta or Copeland?
