Not that he wont still be a Knick--but its a smart financial move to do so. Now what is it going to cost us--does his contract possibly go up to Kobe type money--30mm at that price Im trading him.

I dont think Melo is getting that deal from anyone. I really hope Dolan doesnt force the issue. Ive been a Melo supporter but if he asks for that deal i will turn on him so quick. Everything he says about wanting to win would be BS u cant build a team with someone making that money. Well maybe with Lebron

yea...hell opt out and get a 5 yr deal for like $110million...smh

i have a question...from what i understand, the new CBA basically makes it harder for star players like melo, cp3, dwight to leave by giving the home team the advantage of giving: larger and longer contracts...am i right?

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Yeah. We can offer 5 years vs 4 years and larger raises every year (I think 7.5% vs 4.5%).

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Let's try to get Irving and Love and throw money at those guys, if MElo opts out and wants more he can go to hell.

How come a link wasn't provided stating this? Did Melo say he's opting out? Not that I don't believe he won't.

He has a termination opt out in 2014. I don't know Melo personally nor do I have a link--but I think Im smart enough to know hes going to opt out--who would not opt out to get 5 more years--possibly at much more $$$? He has them over his knee. Now will Melo compromise thats the question.

He isnt going to take less then 20 million a year. The good thing is he cant get bigger money without us so we could trade him. Problem is Dolan is going to tell Gruwald to pay him and we will be FD. I dont think we can win a title with Melo getting 20 million. if he can take 15 I think we can build a team

I think that Melo will take less. And when other players who wants to come hear sees that it might encourage them to come here too. Melo wants to win now. If he wants to be LeBron like he better take less or he can agree to take the rest after 6 or 7 years down the line.

I think you start this now because everyone is talking about how great it is we got rid of Novak's $3M off the cap in 2015- but with Melo likely to opt out- how much cap room will we really have?

I don't know about the new CBA - but I would think for us to maximize adding FA talent with Melo - we would want him to be a FA at the same time - not already on the cap blocking flexibility...

It would be nice if he took something like 5 years 80mm 16mm per is good enough??? Thats what Wade took. Tim Duncan gets 10.

Melo will never take less money. Every decision he has made to this point was to make as much money as possible.1st was to take a 1 yr longer deal than lebron, wade and bosh. The reason was he wanted that extra year worth more money. 2nd was when he wanted to come to the knicks he could have waited until the offseason to come to us but the possibility of him not getting the same amount of money he could get pre lockout caused him to force us to trade for him.

Let's see how healthy Melo is when the negotiations start. He's pushing 30, the injuries are starting to pile up, don't want a repeat of some of the other max deals that we've given to players which we ended up regretting, because they couldn't stay on the floor.

If Melo doesnt take a friendly deal the Knicks have to say goodbye. They wont be able to build a winning team with him making that kind of money.Age is a huge factor as well Im not giving that kind of money to a 30 year old. We will end up getting stuck with 2 or 3 terrible years.I hope they stay away from Aldridge as well

Melo took the extra year so he could get paid more.

Also, cuz it would be a crowded free agent class.

Not a damn thing wrong with either reason.

As far as extension its likely already been determined on a handshake deal with stipulation health. If Melo is healthy he gets extended not for any reason than its good business. Dolan does not break promises. His faults are paranoia, loyalty and stupidity but he is not a snake. How do I know? He stayed loyal to Isiah and resigned H20 to a 100mil contract when logic dictated not to.

If fans don't like Melo for the long term, or feel there is a better choice then thats too bad. 2015 is about who can you pair Melo with via free agency.

Melo is going to opt out in 2014
