Call me hater, which I may be since I really dislike his game, but this is borderline ridiculous.
I don't have anything to add, feel free to flame.
The man has no other reliable scoring options --- JR Smith, followed by Ray Felton are the closest (then who, Chris Copeland?), but those guys are terribly inconsistent...Ty Chandler CAN'T SCORE!! Amar'e's ALWAYS HURT and can't be relied upon anymore period..Even when healthy -- he's half the player he once was, even in year 1 with the Knicks...If mgmt. continues to pencil STAT in as some important cog on this team, they're kidding themselves big-time...I'm already penciling him in as being hurt half the year next season....Melo was pleading in the papers a week or 2 ago for another scorer -- if he was some guy that just wanted to pump up shots with no conscience, why would he openly beg management for an additional scorer(s)? The problem with this team isn't Melo -- the man actually WAS playing with a torn shoulder and still carried us that last game for 3 BRILLANT quarters, on the road in an elimination game, before running out of gas...When you're forced to do it all continually game after game after game after game -- you're gonna run out of steam after 35-40 mins. Simple as that...The man's a fantastic ball player but he's not a robot!! Who else showed up that last game btw (the whole series for that matter)? Shump had one great quarter -- then who? Melo can't do it all, man -- HE JUST CAME OUT AND TOLD US THAT, BEGGING FOR HELP!
Finding that Scottie Pippen 2nd banana---a PROVEN guy that can play big on the big stage, has triple-double potential, efficient 50%-type FG shooter, etc. -- will prove almost impossible. First off -- JR Smith IS NOT THAT GUY!!!!! I can't bear anymore diasappointment from this dude...The thought of bringing him back at $5M+ a pop ALONG WITH his brother just to placate him MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH!!! How on Earth does he deserve that?!? That's treatment reserved for STARS, not bums...We just don't have the cap room to sign someone like that; we don't really have the trading chips to deal for someone like that (and I'm not about to get shanghaied in some bad deal -- Jared Dudley for Iman Shumpert -- no thanks, PHX) AND we probably won't get a player like that at 24 in this draft...What we could do, however, is single out 5-7 solid, young bargin players to slot in all over the roster at league minimum salaries -- see that we CAN DO!!! 2-way bigs, scoring bigs, rebounders, shooters, one or two 2Gs that can really score, able/quick PGs, etc...They're out there -- go get 'em! Jeremy Lin, Chris Copeland, Patrick Beverley --- these 3 are just tip of the iceberg...There's tremendous value out there if we're open to these cost-effective possibilities...We can enforce/fortify every single area of weakness on this roster by going this route..This is the best proactive solution I see to improve the talent level on this team tenfold/twentyfold for next year. Try to shoot for something bigger, of course -- but when nothing out there proves fruitful, AT LEAST be willing to go this route, all I'm saying. It's a great fallback plan to immediately increase the talent level and get a hell of a lot younger too..Just gotta get coach Woody on board to play the young fellas -- Grunny's gotta tell him, 'look, I know young unprovens aren't your bag but we've really got our back against the wall financially right now -- this is the best solution to get you mass talent and fortify all team needs all at once AND at our price. If I get you some young talent -- don't **** around this time -- PLAY 'EM!!! Give 'em all a legit shot!! Build them all up during the year this way they'll be in a position to help you at the end!!' After the Indiana debacle where we looked old, worn out, flat, full of holes and simply not talented enough all around -- I honestly don't see why Woody wouldn't have an open mind to something like this at this stage...This is definitely one avenue I'd be concentrating on right now if I were Glen Grunwald. Name me another way we can add a good 5-7 capable players for next year. We pick the right players, it could be the equivalent to adding 5-7 1st round picks.
