Boy I was watching that game and I keep thinking that man we were a controversial blocked shot at a dunk away from possibly having a game 7 with a chance to go to the ECFAfter thinking about it--we must stay course--but some change is needed. The foundation if the team is Carmelo Shumpert Felton Amare(as new 6th man) The disappointment to me--the reason why this series was lost falls on Chandler. Chandler if he played big--we wouldve won. Thats two years in a row--and now the Knicks have to weigh on the question of can we do this with Chandler? Can Chandler make a commitment to come back and make a 12 foot jumpshot and one post move to expand his game? Will he lift weights and put 10-15 pounds of muscle on a body that was overwhelmed by a bigger man? If he can come in to the office and say I need to work and put on a little weight and strength--add some much needed offense to my repetoire---than keep him. It's easier to go with what you have --it will be hard to trade him right now but it can be done Im sure.
Stay the course plan
A. Decide what we want to do with Chandler--if he commits to putting on 15 pounds of muscle and brings back some offense in terms of one post move and a 14 foot jumpshot--then I say we roll with him. He has to improve he cannot rest on what he has done personally in the NBA--he has to admit he needs to get stronger and come back with a simple form of an offensive game
B Include Amare in a role for 24 minutes as sixth man
B. darft pick 24 we need proven and athletic Larkin Greene Hardaway and I still sticking to Wolters
C Buy a 2nd round pick and go for Branden davies hes athletic 6-10 245 with length perfect 4 size with a skill package
D. Go big with the MLE If it was me I would go very hard after Blatche first Kaman and Dalembart second
E. Resign Copeland Smith and Martin to reasonable contracts if not goodbye
F. See if there is a market for Steve Novak for a trade for a G or draft pick
G Opportunity knocks. If a guy like Paul Pierce became available for the MLE or anything like that--offer team the MLE
H. Get Kidd and camby to retire
Were not far off. Stay the course and try to improve the team. Mandate Chandler to get stronger and come in with post moves. Get Amare on page with a 24 minute 6th man role. Shumpert gets a whole 5 months to get stronger. Get two draft picks who can contribute especially pick 24 to out transition game that has been so bad. Use some money and get a young big PF like davies. Get the best bang for your buck with the MLE start big but lets see who is there.
A - Definitely try to trade him. I don't think we can fetch anything near what some of you are suggesting but try nonetheless. It's a shame because we'll be selling so low right now. Gotta try though. He may be the most overrated player I've ever encountered in sports -- and I've been an avid baseball/basketball follower for over 30 years and have watched thousands of athletes during that time come down the pike. Never seen a more overrated player. I just can't trust Chandler and JR Smith --- Chandler had an opportunity to work with Hakeem the Dream in the off-season and turned it down...I know he hard the Olympics--I get that--but you mean to tell me he couldn't go down and at least sit with The Dream and pick his brain a little bit on basic post play?? How do you turn down an opportunity like that? And it would've been extra beneficial going down with Amar'e there too...This guy will not add a thing to his game this off-season. Bank on it...Then during this series with Indy, he talks smack about his teammates to the media and then goes out and proceeds to turn in some of the worst performances I've ever seen, worse than any of his teammates. No accountability -- always someone else's fault -- the refs on every call, his teammates...This guy stinks on ice....And JR just said "I won't let it happen next time" or some bull****. Really pal? Well, why'd ya let it happen this time?? Outta here, both of them!! Just can't trust either guy anymore.
B - Agreed. No choice really. Horrendous contract coupled with the fact that he's damaged goods now. But limiting him to 25 mins or so is a good idea and we might be able to preserve him & get a productive season out of him going this route. The man was an MVP candidate only a couple of years ago...Here's hoping he's got something left to offer.
B2 - Agree on Green and Larkin at 24. Larkin's stock has definitely gone up now after measuring out a 44" vertical.
C - Complete agree on Brandon Davies. Some of the guys are saying we may not have the $3M to use for a draft pick; that we used our cash allotment bringing Felton here. I hope that's not true. If it is -- bummer because there are quite a few guys projected to go in the 2nd round that could help us.
D - Not sure I'd even evoke the MLE....We've been burned sooooooooo many times giving the wrong players big money deals, I can't even count all the mistakes anymore..I wouldn't overpay for any of those 3 guys. I'd much rather us take a leap of faith and target more cost-effective players instead to fill holes. I know for a fact we could get similar production for so much less. Out on a limb -- I'd say BETTER production. Just curious btw -- under the new CBA, do we still get to use the MLE? Thought I remember the rules changing for this exception a little but could be wrong.
E - I'd love to keep Cope but even that might be hard now. His agent just went public basically saying his client will go where the money takes him....And good for him -- this kid's been through a lot. He deserves to get paid. I don't even want Smith back anymore, esp. if we have to placate him by signing his brother Chris to a guaranteed contract (a crazy rumor I read somewhere a few weeks ago. That's insane--Jr sucks and has been a complete fraud and letdown and his brother Chris isn't NBA material by a mile). Martin can go too. Dude just isn't a regular steady min player anymore and like Tyson Chandler, is so Goddamn limited himself it isn't even funny. We can do better for less money here also.
F - Agreed.
G - I hate Paul Pierce in particular but regardless - overall, I want to see us break away from this fascination with the older/twilight of their career-type player. We don't need players like that. Boston had more players in the twilight of their careers than we did...We beat them then got beat handily by a team that didn't feature any players like this in the next round. Guys like Kidd, Camby, Martin -- these guys are yesterday's news. Great careers, nothing but respect, but the NBA is a young man's game. It's detrimental to overload on older, past-their-prime talent imo. Pierce is almost done btw -- Shump embarrassed him multiple times that 1st round.
H - Completely agree. I want both off the roster asap. Respect, thanks for the memories, I'll remember both guys fondly but outta here, Jack! Tough seeing them walking away from guaranteed money though. We need to explore buyouts or possibly assimilating either guy right into a front office role somewhere in the hopes that that could entice them to walk away.
