Papabear Says

If Jr Smith up and leave the Knicks he will probably get paid a lot of money. I wondet just how much of a chance will a team be willing to take. Woody is in JR Smiths ear. Will he be offered 10 million per year or more or less. I wonder will this hurt him?

I don't think he was getting a max deal anyway. I think someone might offer him 8 mil per. JR works hard and is a huge part of the Knicks success. For selfish reasons I want him in NY so I would be ok if that was how things worked out.

I think he will get 9-10 million and a starting spot somewhere else. I believe he genuinely loves it here, but I would be surprised if he turned down that kind of money after making 2.8 mil.

There is no loyalty in sports, only dollar signs.

Nope. No effect. What he did wasn't that surprising. Teams already know it is a risk to sign J.R. to be one of your main players.

This is why he wont get alot of $$ from teams. Stupid and unnecessary.

I think Atlanta will offer 4 yr deal at 24-28 million.

No, because I am confident the knicks is the only team he will be able to get 10 million a year from.

If JR keeps playing like the 6th man of the year I don't believe it will make a difference unless he gets ejected from another game. I don't believe that's going to happen.

I'm still confused as to why they can't pay him more than 5 million a year. Figuring out the CBA makes my head hurt.

Because he has only been a knick for 2 straight seasons, we only have his early bird rights. When a player is on a team for three years, you get his full bird rights.

JR plays for the Knicks one more season, and we can pay whatever we want to keep him.

Could they establish a contractual agreement between he & his agent to pay him 9-10 mil in the following years, if he opts back in for one more year?

Hopefully Nate Robinsons play is making him a more attractive option to other teams- they're kind of similar in what they give you, good and bad

Nate bought them back and almost killed them too if you saw the game.

Nate is inconsistant.

Some Teams will be reluctant to give JR a certain amount of money because he is volatile.

Sure, if they dont tell anyone and dont put it in writing.

Imo, there is a deal in place already, Chris Smith wasn't a Knick because of basketball skilsls.

The Knicks can give JR Smith a 5 year deal because we will have his bird rights next year.

IF JR Smith was willing to wait a year to get paid I assume the Knicks would do a 4-5 year deal worth 40-50 million. IF that happened then I say the Knicks would need to rebuild around Melo and Smith.

Can you offer the 4-5 year deal, but give him the right to opt out after the 1st year? That way he has the guaranteed long term security, but can still opt out and sign a higher deal with us after the first year. Or can you only offer an opt out for the final year?

The talk of JR and a flagrant and now Nate makes me think of '06 and the brawl that started with Mardy, JR and Nate...

Funny how life goes, huh? I don't think if you told me back then we'd be here today I'd believe you.

No, if he resigns with us this offseason he needs to sign for a minimum of 2 years with no opt out. If he were to sign for more than 2 years he could have options every year after the first two.

With us unable to sweep, and winning game 5, the whole incident only serves to raise his value, IMO.
