Denver has our 1st Rd pick next year. Knicks better make the playoffs or Denver gets our lottery pick

So in essence we traded:
Gallo
Wilson
Mozgov
2014 lottery pick
2016 probable lottery pick
Flexibility

For:
Melo

Newsflash: We're still in first place in the division now.

Think we just might have a chance at that seventh seed next year in this dogsheehit division everyone keeps complaining about?

The problem with the pick is its gone. Lotto or not, its not ours.

I don't think "better make playoffs next year" is the real issue, its how do we improve if we don't have a cupboard of assets.

No youth on the bench.

Nets for example (for my friend JRODMC) have a good euro stashes, and a bench with value young players. Not stars mind you, but they are tradable in bundles if need be. With Marshon, Taylor, Toko, Teletubbie and even the Khardasian they have players. Our old guys are worthless and the "cap space" thing we can't hand our hat on anymore.

Nalod brings up a good point in the other thread..

For all the talk about losing gallo and wilson who are nothing special. Not only did the knicks lose all flexibility to add an elite pg etc but this could be the Eddy Curry trade revisited. Denver is a giid team right now. How will they look in 3yrs with our 2014 & 2016 lottery picks? Noah & Aldrige for eddy curry all over again.

Wow. Melo now equals Eddy Curry.

Why didn't I see this coming? 0-4 road trips while decimated with injuries. It's like Somber Christmas in March!

You're saying that in relative worth, we got Eddy Curry and the Bulls got their future young core.

Then you are equating getting Melo with giving the Nuggets their future young core.

On one side of the equation, is how much better the other team is going to get from the picks we gave away.
On the other side of the equation is what we received for those draft picks.

What did I miss?

I think we all knew the future of the team was mortgaged when we traded for Melo and what happens if your asset doesnt increase in value? You are stuck paying for it with interest (draft picks - possibly lotto picks).

I agree with Guns, we do need to make the playoffs and while the picks are gone regardless, if they are lotto picks then this was a bad trade.

Im not comparing Melo to Curry. In both deals 1st rd picks were thrown around like candy. That candy turned into Noah and Aldridge. Who will Denver draft with our lottery picks? Imagine adding 2 of our lottery picks to:
Lawson
Faried
Gallo
Iggy
McGee

I find it difficult to ever imagine being the Denver Nuggets. No matter what their record is.

For some reason, I just don't find it palatable. Maybe it's the whole Dan Issel thing. And the McDyess trade. And Kiki in general.

both deals have become pretty similar. I was so mad that thomas basically gave the bulls all out draft picks for like 3 years for eddy fatass curry. Granted Melo is a much better player but we gave up a ton

Whoa, let's not jump to conclusions so quickly. We need to discuss and present our arguements and advanced sabremetrics in order to figure out if Melo really is much better player than Curry. Afterall this is the purpose of this board am I right? Am I right ?

Unclebear Says

Wasn't 6 months ago we were talking about ECF? Now were talking about making the playoffs next year. I wouldn't be surprise if were a bottom lottery team next year at this time.
