I can only speak for the players in which I grew up watching... And yes, I'll leave Carmelo Anthony off of this list, due to the simple fact that we all know he's yet to win an NBA Championship (that's NBA basketball for ya). And no, fan favorites of ex-Knicks such as Jeremy Lin, Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Anthony Randolph, Timofey Mozgov, Zach Randolph and David Lee have yet to win an NBA championship nor enjoy postseason success either.

This thread isn't about Carmelo Anthony, but I do find it laughable when fans harp all over Melo's postseason failures despite the fact his career has yet to be written as he's currently enjoying his 10th season of NBA play. With all that stated, lets take a closer look at others with a boat load of postseason failure(s) and/or never won an NBA championship.

John Stockton.
Mark Price.
Mark Jackson.
Kevin Johnson.
Tim Hardaway.
Steve Nash.
Chris Paul.
Derrick Rose.
Russell Westbrook.
Deron Williams.
Reggie Miller.
Anfernee Hardaway.
Tracy McGrady.
Allen Iverson.
Grant Hill.
Vince Carter.
Andre Iguodala.
Joe Johnson.
Bernard King.
Dominique Wilkins.
Chris Mullin.
Kevin Durant.
Rudy Gay.
Josh Smith.
Danny Granger.
Karl Malone.
Charles Barkley.
Shawn Kemp
Chris Webber
Elton Brand.
Kevin Love.
Blake Griffin.
LaMarcus Aldridge.
Patrick Ewing.
Dikembe Mutombo.
Vlade Divac.
Rik Smits.
Yao Ming.
Dwight Howard.

Would it be fair to take the same 'Melo approach' and state that these men "never had what it took" to win an NBA Championship and/or "doesn't have what it takes" due to their postseason failures? I myself (personally) do not feel this way in regards to the player(s) listed above, because as a long time fan of NBA basketball, I not only understand what it takes to win an NBA championship (as a team) but also understand the game of basketball. All of these players listed above are/were very good to great NBA players. Just never won that chip for whatever reason. This doesn't mean that most of these players listed above weren't pure greatness in regards to overall talent/ability.

Also, lets try and keep in mind that Melo himself has yet to complete his 10th NBA season. Currently enjoying his prime year(s). Which is why I find it funny (more like sad and pathetic) how Melo critics can (and do) state how we'll "never win an NBA championship under Carmelo Anthony", despite the fact that...

LeBron James never won his first ring until his 9th NBA season (during a shortened NBA season).
David Robinson never won his first ring until his 10th NBA season.
Hakeem Olajuwon never won his first ring until his 10th NBA season.
Paul Pierce never won his first ring until his 10th NBA season.
Ray Allen never won his first ring until his 12th NBA season.
Clyde Drexler never won his first ring until his 12th NBA season.
Alonzo Mourning never won his first ring until his 13th NBA season.
Kevin Garnett never won his first ring until his 13th NBA season.
Dirk Nowitzki never won his first ring until his 13th NBA season.
Gary Payton never won his first ring until his 17th NBA season.

Etc, etc.

So no, this thread wasn't about Carmelo Anthony but instead to point out how laughable it is when these negative Melo critics and/or Mr.Know it all's sit here and state that Carmelo Anthony will "never win an NBA Championship" due to his past/previous postseason failures. They've all lived through a boat load of postseason failures. Some much worse than Melo's. If anything, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger in sports, and Melo now features a boat load of postseason experience. That you can never take away from Melo himself. Will he ever win an NBA title? Only time will tell, but some of these posters are truthfully clueless in regards to the trials and tribulations in which NBA players must first go through, in order to (potentially) win an NBA championship.

How about learn the history of the game (of basketball) before attacking and/or harping all over a specific player due to past postseason failures/eliminations.

Now take out the guys who have led or was a key piece to their teams making the finals and at least had a chance to play for that title.

I betcha that list gets real small.

Then we'd also have to take a look at their supporting cast, now wouldn't we?

But it doesn't matter. Playoffs, Conference Finals, Finals... It doesn't matter. People around here don't judge winners on "Final apperances", they judge them on Championships and postseason failures. All of these players mentioned, had/have a boat load of playoff failure.

Forget about the greats in which never won a ring, just look at how long it took the likes of LeBron, David Robinson, Hakeem, Pierce, Ray Allen, Drexler, Mourning, K.G, Dirk, Gary Payton etc, etc to actually win a ring. Outside of LeBron, all took 10+ seasons. A specific someone has yet to complete his 10th NBA season. Also, how many of these players listed above completely failed to make the playoffs during some of these seasons? Exactly.

Moral of the story? Basketball is a team game. Some of the all-time greats never won an NBA championship. Lots of others took 10+ years to due so. Not all NBA great had to join forces with the likes of Ray Allen and Chris Bosh to do so either.

If only John Stockton, Reggie Miller and Patrick Ewing would've joined forces... What could've been.

you can't lump these players together like that just to protect melo's reputation-- of course it matters. a savvy student of the game will make a distinction between mere playoff appearances and how far a player leads his team INTO the playoffs and then look at how consistently he does so.

making it to the first round means absolutely nothing in terms of achievement-- the reason is that the nba is a diluted and bloated product that rewards mediocrity and that is what the first round is, basically. that and an easy revenue stream.

what i would ask instead is how many of the players you listed made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs and beyond, how consistently they did so, and did they make a series out of those appearances, meaning 6 or 7 games.

that to me would be a fair measure of the players listed. i challenge you to organize your list accordingly.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

It's not ok if Melo doesn't win a championship. The reason I say this is because there is not one player or team in this league that can't be beat. If you play in an era of powerhouse teams then I can see why it's ok to not win a championship. The era Melo currently plays in is devoid of powerhouse teams. Miami is going to have to do another trick to get my vote as a powerhouse team.

yea, this thread is very misleading, and the list rigged, if you ask me.. I find it funny how he mentions dirk not winning until his 13th season, but dirk was in the finals and most agree was pretty much robbed vs the heat in 2006 which was dirks 8th year in the league...

I mean jeez these threads.. LOL

I think it's funny you're taking the focus from the question of Melo being a terrible lead player,

and you are now putting the focus on Melo's championships,

this is called a red fish,

everyone knows most people won't win a championship, no one is blaming melo for that,

the thing is that a lot of the guys on your list are champions even if they've never won it, like ewing is a champion because you saw that he was capable of taking a solid swing at it,
