I love Spree. Even towards the end of his career. His first return to MSG was classic

I think Sprewell played good basketball but was a nut case. 13 million dollars per year was not enough to feed his kid? Another sports star gone broke.

Love Spree. Sad to see how things have gone down for him but he was a great Knick.

I am very up and down on this guy. As a Knick, he did everything you could ask him to do on the court. Off the court: He is an idiot and a complete jackass, seemingly. Plus I will never forget his "The numbers don't like" comment about Ewing.

Well if we're to judge a player simply on team success, Sprewell was a career loser. Everyone harps over this player, and that player, when in regards to postseason success. But with Spree? He failed to lead his team(s) to the postseason more times than not. Way more times than not to be exact. Career numbers weren't anything special either. Enjoyed him as a Knick, just never considered him a franchise player and/or a true NBA star.

That's why I never buy into the idea that a player is a bum unless they win a championship, or get the the finals. For me heart, passion and effort are important- I enjoy watching players and teams who compete. Sprewell was one of the best when it came to that, a real shame how his career ended- always found it odd when people close to him said basketball was never important to him when he walked away from the game.

I've never heard anyone bad mouth Sprewell on these boards- always assumed he was one of the most popular Knicks.

What I'm never sure about is what people think of Chris Childs in retrospect. Remember he used to get blasted back in the day, but he always seemed to make the big shots, and his passion and toughness was part of the teams personality.

that infamous quote has (I believe) always been taken out of context. Spree is still my 3rd All Time favorite Knick behind Ewing and Larry Johnson.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Spree was a hell of a player. Great defender. Streaky shooter but great slasher. Always thought if Ewing was a bit younger Spree/H20/Ewing could have won a title together.

Owning up to the quote.

The Pathetic explanation:
In one of the neverending Melo is MVP/Melo is a dirtbag-loser threads, he was compared to Spree. In that thread, it appeared the Spree hate was more expressed than the Spree love. I obviously exaggerated saying that everyone hates Spree. Apologies to the vast majority on here.

I base my mistatement on past abuse I have taken on my Spree manlove.

Spree is and has always been my starting 2 guard on my all-time Knicks team. His game was insane at both ends of the court and he'd go full out for 48 minutes. When he was in the game, you never had to wonder where he was.

Liked the poll results!

Loved Spree. Spoke from his heart. He was a great Knick. Spree and H2O was a deadly combo they just ran into a taller deadlier combo in 1999.

who knows what could have been had Ewing not suffered the wrist injury. He was a shell of himself afterwards.

Everyone outside KnickLand has spree as poster child for the self absorbed bone head player. If you look at the headlines he gathered its easy to see why he is disliked.

we are biased. We should be. He was a hell of a player but we all know he took his time getting to camp, WristGate, and his departure was interesting..
