I don't want to name drop but some poster said this very early on in the season. Some very nice quotables from the article in particular what they say about their advanced stats compared to their actual shooting.

And hopefully Melo will drop completely off the chart soon. You can still actually read his name in the graphic. What a pity.

Paul plays fewer minutes. If you look at WS per 48 rather than total, he comes out more impressive. It's a shame the graphic didn't mention who was 4th in win shares.

hahaha, guilty as charged... as i always felt this was a two man race... If you step back as just a fan of the NBA, this is pretty easy.. those two guys numbers are just amazing.. if you can look at the player and not his PPG, but look at all of the numbers, the way they play, the high level they play, how they conduct themselves and the effect they have on their team.. this was simple.... both durant and lebron are playing at historic levels...... lebron is a wing player shooting 55% jeez..... durant 52%... I mean these guys are ballin..

The thread, my friend, is about all the "Melo doesn't belong in the MVP conversation with Lebron and Durant". Remember? Or maybe I should wait a minute, so 3G can tell me he is just talking about these two on a Knicks site because he simply loves the game, right?

I'm really surprised, considering how good the Clippers have been including going undefeated for the month of December, that Chris Paul isn't getting talked about more for MVP.

Oh, and if anyone is wondering, Tyson Chandler is 4th in win shares.

It's because people severely overrate PPG.

Well he was by ESPN 2weeks ago but then he goes down with knee injury and the Clips went like 3-0 without him while Durant drops 40-50pt gms and Lebron shows up Kobe with huge game. Somewhat of a what have you done for me lately mixed with a timely conversational piece. No need for anyone to get uptight over this fact finding it is a continuation of last year for these 2 exceptional players who are in a league of their own.

I guess I just didn't realize how much. It's just hard to get over the fact that a guy who, when healthy, has been one of 3 or 5 best players in the league, who's the best player on a team tied for the best record in the league, is pretty much an afterthought in the MVP conversation.

Actually, Berri writes about this in his book. The way to get paid as an NBA player is just shoot, shoot, and keep shooting. As long as you make above 35% of your shots (or it was somewhere in 30s - I forget off-hand), the more you inflate your PPG by shooting, the more you'll get paid. For example, you're better off averaging 6.0 FG on 14.0 FGa than 4.0 FG on 8.0 FGA, even though the marginal difference (2 for 6) is bad.

Paul averages 17 points on 12 shots a game. If he took 6 more shots a game and averaged 6 more points, it wouldn't help his team much but he'd be putting up 23 PPG and getting much more consideration.

the value aspect regardless of stats is how well a player balances getting his with helping others get theirs. it's plain as day that durant, with his vastly improved playmaking skills, is just as valuable to his team as any other genuine candidate is to theirs.

it is possible to do this from any position on the court, even power forward.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Yes for sure and NO.. jason kidd was runner up for MVP and probably should have won it, and he averaged 14ppg that year I think..
