I saw this coming...

Amar'e said he wasn't 80% when discussing his return and he's looked not rusty but physically incapable at times. His shot was getting blocked so much and he was getting pushed baseline with ease.

He's not in this team's long term plans on the court anyway although we may be stuck eternally with his contract.

Not surprised, if I were Woodson just cut it back down to 15-20 minutes for a little while. 28 minutes is too much for Amare right now.

seems a bit sensationalistic. His knees are sore, and its a fresh surgery, so they are going to limit him a little bit. Look at Lin...he was obviously having knee trouble at the beginning of the season, and he took the whole summer and part of the fall off. This is just responsible precaution. Both Amare and the knicks were a little too overzealous I suppose.

A perfect reason to proceed slowly with I Man Shumpert.

Although there is an age and conditioning/ recovery difference, Shumpert needs to be monitored carefully. Just because he is happy to be on the court with his running buddies does NOT mean he can jump into a series of back to back games without setbacks.

Caution.

I would shut Amare down until a month before playoffs and use him sparingly 10-15 minutes. The team shouldn't create a false sense of reliance for Amare.

I thought it was kind of weird he got 28 minutes in the first place,

So I'm not looking at this as a setback, just bringing it back to where I thought he should be anyway,

I'm still laughing all the way to the bank in fantasy: traded Jonas Valanciunas for Amar'e a few weeks ago, I'm sure it will look like an awesome trade for me come playoffs time

Why is this news? He should not be playing over 20mins. Woodson pushed it with 28. Mavericks were very careful with Dirk's minutes for weeks on end. Same with Nyets and Lopez

This is not a setback. In order for Amare to finish the year his minutes need to be limited. Even more so in the beginning

Why use him at all then? At that rate he will disrupt the team more than help

I think he might be finished. Sure limited minutes might be OK but he will keep breaking down. I love Stat and I want to see him succeed but his knees are shot.

He puts on his hat and leaves.

Once it leaves, explosion is gone for good. Amar'e had had too many shots blocked to be considered a force inside.

Stoudemire can only lean on trickeration.

Serious question: how many 20 point games do you think Amare will have between no and when he retires?

I agree. If he could work and rehab his way through this I have no doubt he would. Docs gave an expected timeline of 5 years I believe and he went beyond that.

I don't know about between today and retirement, but I'll guess at no more than 3 from today to the end of the year,

There will be a few nights when he takes maybe 10-15 shots and makes a very high % of them, it happens to all guys in the NBA,

He needs to play 15-20 mins a a game just to keep the rust off a bit. But I agree, use him sparingly before playoffs, just enough to get his timing honed and shot falling, and to learn the defensive rotations.

Fortunately, based off the teams success this doesn't matter too much. If he can just give 15-20 a night, perfect. Contract is a bitch though
