Lost in the commotion and frustration of last night was a significant double double. 26/10.

The young man is playing the most sophisticated basketball of his career. While everyone else was losing their cool, Mr Smith had a great game.

He is doing the things on defense and in transition that are more consistent than a jump shot. He is rebounding and moving the ball.

His skill set is a carbon copy of Kobe Bryant. Sadly, for JR, his education is not nearly as diverse or multi-lingual. His personal development and game comprehension could also be where Kobe was, coming out of high school.

Mike Woodson is turning to Smith earlier and earlier.

No, none of us do. You're the only poster here that appreciates it when one of our players does well.

VCoug - it is an innocent thread title, intended to generate dialogue. If you have nothing but personal resentment you can take it somewhere else.

JR Smith is a fascinating study in redemption and renewal. Something we all might learn from.

JR is a very good defensive player and rebounder and was a great buy at his salary. However, he is also a very talented offensive player who chooses to have bad shot selection and will probably have both outstanding and awful shooting stretches for the rest of his career.

I think When Amare get's back JR should start. We need one more creator in the starting line up.

When does a player like JR receive credit for making positive corrections to his game?

David Lee has worked to remake himself as a more rounded player and deserves praise for doing so.

Exactly when JR goes through another rough shooting stretch this will look as silly as the appreciating Felton thread. Novak is struggling again but once he gets it going for a few games I expect a Novak appreciation thread

How dare a Knick fan try to appreciate how well a Knick is playing. So what if he goes from Felt, to JR to Novak. They are all Knicks, and we are Knick fans, right? I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem if the thread title read, 'I appreciate how well Lin is playing of late.'

I believe we had a Thread titled "Does anyone appreciate how well Lin is playing" earlier in the year until the Knicks refused to match and Lin became the enemy. As in what have you done for me lately kinda way

It is difficult to understand why being positive is rewarded with so-called fans who are more anxious to watch players fail. This "appreciation" thread is not conceived to hold JR Smith as without flaws. Following a player, whether it is Raymond Felton, JR Smith or the Beautiful Jeremy Lin - is more intent on following the nuance of that players development.

Not the box scores. Not the end result. The process. The signals that occur over the course of a marathon season, that evolve into positive story lines, which make basketball worth watching.

For example, even though he is not ours, how can any Knicks fans not feel a small bit of empathy for David Lee - a player who gave us honest labor with a revolving door of running buddies?

In the same vein, how can anyone who has followed JR's winding (self-centered and immature) path, not feel some good vibes when he drops a double double or 5 assists?

It is not being "right" or "wrong". It is about the process.

There is nothing wrong with singing praises during a marathon season as a fan. I apologize for letting my frustration about Raymond Felton carry over into other threads. I will try to show better restraint for now on
