Ex-NBAer Shawne Williams Arrested For Drug Possession

Former NBA baller Shawne Williams (pictured) was arrested on Thursday night in Memphis and is now facing charges of possession of cocaine with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver and possession of a controlled substance, reports TMZ.

According to police, an officer on a routine patrol outside of an electronics store noticed that the smell of marijuana permeated the air and seemed to be wafting from the direction of a parked Porsche Panamera sedan. When the policeman approached the expensive car, Williams was inside. The 26-year-old immediately thought he should fess up to the law enforcer by stating, “Officer I ain’t gonna lie to you, there’s a blunt in the car and some syrup.”

When the policeman searched the vehicle, he reportedly stumbled upon a partially smoked blunt, another that had not been touched, and a bottle of codeine-based cough syrup, which didn’t have a prescription.

It seems that Williams’ current run-in with the law was not his first.

The former Indiana Pacer, Dallas Mavericks, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Portland, Trailblazer has had several drug-related arrests in his past. The player’s most-recent arrest occurred as recent as 2010, when he faced felony drug charges for selling a codeine substance.

Too bad. The guy looked like he was too hardcore before he beat out Ew jr. and was a major contributor. Thought he had rehabilitated himself.

It's a damn shame that Shawne keeps getting himself caught up with drama like this. He made some bad decisions, from choosing the Nets over the Knicks to failing to leave the drugs alone.

Donnie Walsh gave him another chance 2 years ago with the Knicks. He was involved with a drug related charge before that. He has ruined his career, at least in the NBA.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

The purple drank is the more dangerous of the stuff. Plenty of people have offed themselves with it.

Still, it's a shame, I liked how he played for us- guess this explains why he's not been signed by a team (hmm, maybe explains the mysterious 'flu symptoms' upon signing with the nets last season).

Shawne is was in a lot of trouble earlier and it was thought that his career was over because of it. It wasn't a personal use issue like this seems to be. He blew his second chance and i think that is what people are reacting to.

What a damned shame. Marijuana who gives a ****, but cocaine and cough syrup? And, in my experience, people chugging cough syrup to get high are about one step away from the really hard **** like heroin or crystal meth.

He was just in the wrong state. If he was in COlorado or Washington he would still be only a NBA reject. Now he us a drug user and an NBA reject.
