JJ became pretty popular here during his second stint with the team, so I didn't really understand why we traded him to Portland. This article clarifies why:

Throughout the course of his 11-year career, Jeffries has had two knee surgeries and just this past summer, had a Orthokine procedure done on his right knee in Germany performed by Dr. Peter Wehling, the same knee injection procedure Kobe Bryant and others have made so famous.

Without the injections, Jeffries said he questioned if he would have been able to suit up this year.
“I didn't think I was going to play this year,” Jeffries told CSNNW.com. “As bad as my knee was hurting in the playoffs last year and at the end of the season, it didn't look like I was, so I had the injections. Micro-fracture surgery was suggested, but at my age, I wasn't going to get that done. Right now though, my knee feels great.”

So it looks like we thought he was done. He's not really been doing much in Portland, so I guess we were right. Shame- I thought he might comeback for a third stint in the coming offseason.

I'll give The Cosmetic Vessel a ton of credit. I don't know if was due to his arm injury or whatever, but he was one of the worst offensive players I've ever seen but somehow turned himself into a more than solid NBA player

anyway, I think his chronic injuries were the result of giving his all all the time

i don't agree with that thinking... because we can't really judge what he is doing in portland now after he left us and played well for us.. what we need to look at is that he played well for us, and that is what is important.. for the most part and for both of his stints here, jeffries has played pretty well..

I panic when I hear 'micro fracture surgery'- especially when the players 31. I know those orthokine injections are popular these days, but I don't see what they do when it's bone on bone. Don't get me wrong- what JJ did for us was great and I was sad to see him go, but I think his days in this league are numbered. He'll be a great locker room presence and leader for the Blazers, but I don't think he can play many minutes.

JJ went from being one of the most unpopular Knicks, to one of the most popular despite being the worst offensive player ever! He did it by playing tough defense and working hard.

I believe that injection procedure is about to come to the states soon. I wouldn't mind Amar'e taking a look at that. I am not worried about him this year though.

My Aunt went on a Shark watching boat trip w JJ and his wife- one of those ones where you get in the water in a cage w Scuba Gear and the sharks swim up close and check you out- I saw the video of the trip they gave everyone and cracked up seeing JJ in scuba gear! I should have kept that DVD it would have been UK Klassic
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

That being said I WAY prefer Ronnie Brewer- I just feel like JJ is bad luck- and I hated him w the ball in important moments- he was the "Glue" - in your hair.....
I feel like there are no scrubs on the Knicks anymore - Love that!

WELL If you are looking at it from an injury standpoint only, I agree, no need to keep a guy who felt he couldn't play at all.... but he says he feels great and if healthy he would have been nice to have on this team..... not sure if portland is a good place for him, but I am happy he is healthy if anything, jeffries is a good guy... but yes micro fracture surgery is no joke, especially on the other side of 30..

he did a lot with a little.. never cheated the fans, the coach, teamates or himself.. he played hard.. never could understand the hate some NY fans had with him...... yea sometimes he would try too hard and it was an adventure on offense, but this guy played the game the right way...

I liked Jeffries 2.0. Very glad he came back, and won the respect he deserved from the NY fans. We essentially flipped him for Kurt. Can't complain with that at the moment.

One of my all time favorites. Always felt he was a true Knick, even version 1.0.

If he stays healthy I bet he'll be back with us again.

Info on the treatment. It seems like a smart choice for players especially compared to micro fracture surgery.
Orthokine

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search

Orthokine is an experimental medical procedure in which a patient's own blood is extracted, manipulated, and then reintroduced to the body as an anti-inflammatory drug to reduce chronic pain and osteoarthritis.[1][2][3] Known in the United States as Regenokine,[4] the process removes about 2 US fluid ounces (59 ml) of blood from a patient's arm, which is then incubated at a slightly raised temperature.[1][5][6] The liquid is then placed in a centrifuge until its constituent parts are separated. The middle yellowish layer is dense with agents that are believed to stop an arthritic agent known as interleukin-1, which causes degeneration of the joints and the breakdown of cartilage.[1][3][7] That serum is injected into the patient's affected area.[5] The procedure reduces pain and discomfort in the joint.[3] The treatment generally lasts five days, with six shots of the serum into the affected area.[6] It is normal for a patient to receive annual injections to ease the joint discomfort.[3]

Orthokine is a patented method developed by molecular biologist Dr. Julio Reinecke and Dr. Peter Wehling, a spinal surgeon in Düsseldorf, Germany.[3][7] A two-year study of osteoarthritis of the knee, published in the medical journal Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, confirmed the safety and effectiveness of the therapy.[9] Orthokine is less invasive than most, if not all, other forms of knee surgeries available.[10] It focuses on treating the inflammation as opposed to mechanical problems in the joints. Orthokine was first approved for widespread use in Germany in 2003.[11] Most patients have reported positive results.[3][9] Orthokine differs from a similar procedure with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), where platelets are targeted instead of the interleukin antagonist.[12] Platelets are thought to speed the healing process. Also, PRP does not require the blood to be heated as Orthokine does. The heating increases the anti-inflammatory proteins by as much as 100 times

some people only appreciate offense but, the purists will always love a guy like Jarad. Dude (as someone said earlier) NEVER took a day off and with the glue that anchored our defense. I will always remember Jarad as the KING of drawing charging violations. Dude was a very smart defender.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Good riddance!!!!

Just kidding! Don't blame JJ for fumbling the ball. For goodness sake he was not to be our center was he? Blame our lack of depth!

And really, even if we won that game, where were we going?

JJ was a high IQ player that reminded me of Phil Jax back in the day. He played, was effective for what he did, and it was never pretty!

He is welcome on my knicks any time!

Please. I'd take one third of Jorts back 10 times over to re-living Mr. Gimmick Defend Opposing PG's.

Orthokine sounds like a really expensive alternative to hylaronic acid injections. Can't wait to see what the long-term affects are of re-injecting heated "yellowish middle layers" of your own blood back into your body. Doesn't sound good.

But we are talking millions of dollars of income here, so I guess I'd probably inject dirty play dough into my knee if I could make that kind of change.

Not kidding. A professional NBA player should be able to make a layup, for God's sake. He was a liability.

He is garbage.

Do people forget we overpaid for him and he proceeded to suck and stay injured.
