Kidd was my #1 offseason target and here's why..
Interview with Tina:
This morning at #Knicks shootaround in San Antonio, I talked to Jason Kidd about what he's been doing to make such a big impact on players in such a short time with the team
Jason said,
“I’m just doing my thing, sharing my experiences because I’ve been around the league so long. The main thing I tell every player:
is don’t panic ... the big thing is to always be calm, accept the moment in the game ... if we’re down, we’re going to work together in the game to get back in there, and if we’re up we have to continue playing the same way ... which is hard... But to also have fun. We have some talented guys here and they have to have that confidence. Because with confidence in this league, guys will learn they can do a lot more than what they’ve done in the past.”
When did you realized it takes more than talent to succeed in this league ... that you have to apply a strong mental aspect as well?
“There’s a learning curve. When I got to Jersey, it was a team that won 20-something games, I thought they were talented enough to be a team that could have won 41 ... and to give them that confidence or security .... such as when we’re in a flow ... we have a good chance of winning. When they start believing that, the team starts getting on these rolls, and you start winning and it breeds confidence throughout the whole team. That’s what I think we are doing right now, where everybody is gaining this confidence; ‘Hey look, we can win every game if we play the right way!’ Now, you’re going to lose some, but in the long run you’re going to win.”
