On how this season's Knicks team is better suited to compete for a championship: "I think Mike (D'Antoni) was very, very successful and you can't take that away from him. I have a great deal of respect for him in terms of what he's done. But you know as well I know that defense wins titles, and that's the only way I know it because I experienced it in Detroit as a Piston. But if you can mix some offense and defense with your team, you become the total package." He credited the Spurs and Lakers for doing that, leading to multiple championships since 1999. Woodson to Stephen A and Ryan Ruocco: "No offense to Mike D'Antoni, but defense wins championships" At least we hear it from the horses mouth: no scheme, plans, traces, or preaching of defense from D'Antoni according to Woodson. Woodson didn't throw him under the bus though, and was graceful and thanked Mike for the opportunity to coach and learn some of his offense. |
