Carmelo Anthony Aides Hurricane Sandy Relief In Brooklyn
Carmelo Anthony, East, New York Knicks | Mack | 11/10/2012 2:41 PM

Hurricane Sandy struck a nerve for Carmelo Anthony, and not only because he represents New York, but because he was born in Brooklyn and apart of a community that was devastated by the natural disaster. Thursday, Anthony stepped out into the community, visiting the Red Hook neighbourhood of Brooklyn to hand out boxes of food and housing supplies to those in need. As his ‘Carmelo Anthony Foundation’ teamed up with ‘Feed The Children’ and ‘Metro Ministries’, they were able to deliver 500 boxes filled with food and cleaning supplies to a housing project on Columbia Avenue, a block away from where he lived as a child in Red Hook.

ESPN NY:

“I wanted to step up to the forefront,” Anthony said to a small group of reporters on the scene. “We all know what Sandy did to our city, especially to Brooklyn, and to Red Hook, with us being right here on the water. It hit us pretty bad, so I feel like I’m the face of Red Hook and I wanted to come back and give back to the place I grew up.”

“I’m one of them, I was once one of them,” he said. “I grew up running around with a lot of the older guys as a little kid, so for me to come back and to help and give out house supplies and things like that, that’s the least I can do, especially at a time like this.”

Good for Melo...and....

The NBA as a whole donated $1mil for relief

Marbury handed out Starbury to low income families

Mike Miller and Motumbo funded newly built hospitals

Wade donated a gym(s) to the inner cities of Chicago

Lebron has a foundation in Akron for kids

OKC has a remember the fallen foundation from the bombing victims

Maimi Heat organization I believe donated 50,000 right off the top for Sandy

Dwayne Wade gave his Knick Game paycheck to the relief

Larry Johnson and John Wallace were also doing ground level work in New York communities after the Sandy disaster....they aren't even in the league anymore

During the Japan disaster certain players donated $1,000 per point scored

Tyson Chandler and Marcus Camby do continual overseas work in Africa and other poor countries

Lin should donate his second year contract salary to Hurricane Sandy relief.

come on now people are overexaggerating on melo. Nobody hates the guy. Some fans were not happy with the progress his first two years and they had every right to feel that way. Fortunetly Melo finally looks very focused and is off to a great start

It's silly. You either think of Melo as a top 5 player in the league or hate the guy.

As much as I bashed Melo it isn't about hating him. I actually felt the Knicks had to make the deal for him. He's a top talent. The thing is the guy acted like a jerk and he didn't have to. Now he seems to understand what he needs to do in order to win. He's taking the lead and being an example for his teammates. That's all we want. Also we're only talking about BB related issues. It's not like anyone was saying he was a bad person off the court. Melo has a chance to get to the final plateau with this team and he's acting like he knows it.

Some folks on here, and it's been documented as less than 10 posters (The Homer Academy expresses thanks once again to Uncle Nalod for establishing that fact), just don't like Melo as a player, as a person, for whatever myriad reasons. Fat, muscle tone, smiling, La La, blackhole-ishness, etc, etc, etc.

It does have to do with comparisons for most, because if you read the posts, he's labeled a non-star, a perennial playoff loser, and recently "not a legitimate starter". Folks constantly bring up Lebron, Wade, CP3, and Dwight (the last two, who, last time I checked, haven't won shit in the way of chips)

It's almost always denigrated (for most of those identified above) into fond, wistful memories about our belovedly mediocre yoots of the past, and comparing a scorer to the god of "flexibility and cap space". Dreams of great, late first round draft picks that never were. And most likely, given the Knicks history of recent drafts, never would have been anyway.

So maybe it's not hate. That might be harsh. But the whining continues (however, some of it is the result of mindless baiting) despite the fact our resident evil Satan incarnate is leading the team in blocks. Which, one of you will undoubtedly point out in the next thirty seconds, is only the result of a such a small sample size

All I know is, tkf and I agreed on something. Actually related to the Knicks. So, rest easy fellas, there is a God!

Yup. I take it with a grain of salt anytime I see ads on tv that praises the NBA (Or any sport or anyone for that matter) for their charitable endeavors. It's good the causes are getting that money but the fact that these people constantly pat themselves on the back for doing so and then they say the reason they do it is because it feels good makes me want to vomit.

Want to know what makes me want to vomit more? The New York Yankees and the way the present themselves during "Hope Week." That's right, I said it. The Yankees praise themselves like craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy during this period and all the while, they donate an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow coco dot bikini of a $10,000 to 5 charities ($50,000 total, which is still nothing compared to what they have). The one that turned me off completely was when they had this guy known as the Angel of Queens, or something like that. This guy spends all of his money, literally, making food for homless people. They gave him $10,000 dollars, invited him to a game, which he couldn't actually stay for the game. Just the first pitch, because he had to get back to making food and they later announced that he lost his financial support and uses his money he gets being a bus driver on the food making. You have him on your program, make yourselves look great yet he's only getting $10,000? Give me a freaking break.

Look at him being a box-stopper, the guy on the truck is wide open yet Melo looks him off. I had enough of this guy, if that were Gallo the box movement wouldnt have gone stagnant.

I bleed orange and blue for life.
