Why is philly's backcourt better? I think they are very similiar...pretty much a wash, but the Knicks point guard depth trumps them
They have Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner, Nick Young, and Jason Richardson. We have Shumpert, JR, Felton, Brewer, Kidd, and Pablo. I would rank a healthy Shumpert a tick below Holiday and Turner but Shump isn't even healthy, and probably won't be until 2013-14, so those two are clearly the best out of that group. JR and Young are practically the same player so they cancel out. And Jason Richardson is better than Felton (barely mediocre), Brewer (nice defensive role player that can't shoot), Kidd (terrible last year), and Pablo (never played a minute in the NBA). Their group as a whole defends almost as good as ours does with a healthy Shump but they are all much better shooters. And they're much younger so they still have room to improve while we only have Shump.
Too much Shump talk...you said it yourself, he probably won't be healthy to play that well this year....
Can't compare Richardson to Felton. Richardson is a shooting guard and Felton is a point guard.
Felton vs. Holiday is a wash, but I would put Felton ahead because he's a better distributor. Outside of Hoiliday, Philly doesn't have a back-up point guard with Lou Williams out....Knicks have Kidd, even though he wasn't walking in the gym with a triple double, he still played well enough in less minutes. Pablo has experience playing high level basketball so he will be effective as well.
I think Ronnie Brewer can guard Richardson. I might even say that Ronnie Brewer is comparrible to Evan Turner.
The Knicks major hole exists behind Melo and Amare....Novak is a specialist. Copeland might not even make the team. KT can't be relied on to play big minutes, But Camby is around also to play PF....
Neither team is finished, but I still believe the Knicks are better on paper....coaching is gonna play a huge factor. Doug Collins is a very good coach.
