Wow, Amare looks like he lost a boatload of weight. Well, who knows. Just imagine if he and Melo both come to camp in top shape and ready to roll from Day 1.

McGee could be BEASTING and actually dominate if he adds skills to his frame/athleticism/reach/length

Lol Hakeem would be the best post player on the Knicks if he played tomorrow.

He could probably still dominant most of the bigs in the NBA.

Amare's movement and footwork still looks very predictable, forcing the same moves.
While McGee is also a freak athlete and good size/length, his movement looks much better than Amare.

I think Melo would actually benefit much more playing the PF and having some lessons with Hakeem to expand his ability to create for others, allowing team mates to play off Melo.

In the Team USA, Melo is playing a 6th man role, where he focuses on what he does best, SCORE.
A hybrid between JR Smith and Dirk (without the size/length/all round game)

The closer distance, limited minutes, and great players that are all versatile, make Melo look much better than he would on the The Knicks.
However, TEAM USA vs Knicks, they have GREAT versatile players that can ALL PENETRATE/SHOOT the 3pointer to spread the floor (at least 4 shooters that can spread the floor)
While we only have 1 player that can penetrate in Felton, whom I consider an AVERAGE handle, passer/facilitator, and ability to penetrate/finish at best.

It is a big worry, with a few others.....

having multiple players that can penetrate just opens up the game for everyone
without a Lebron/Durant stopper at SF/PF
a versatile defender that can play off the ball that JJ played for us to guard the Kevin Loves/Dirk's/

I wonder if Amare and McGee split the $100k price of admission for 2 weeks (group class) or if each is on the hook for $100K?

Congratulations DJ you made a basketball related thread. Good to see Amare putting in the reps. I have been very critical of both him and Melo last year. Maybe Amare will come back in good enough shape to last an entire season. But he has always been hardworking. A post game would be great, but he needs to play defense and rebound. Maybe he should have worked out with Rodman instead?
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Always been hard working? Why is it that you guys don't care that he is anything but HARDWORKING on defense??

Seriously, I don't get it.

His defense is horrible, but I think it has more to do with a lack of comprehension. He does not get what he is supposed to do. And he also tries to save himslef from foul trouble because he thinks he needs to close out the games. It's a laughable pretexts and he is not very bright. Yes, he does at least show up to play, but needs to get going (by being fed in the paint for easy points) before he can bring his total game on.

With all due respect, I have heard the "he is not very bright" excuse a few times now and I cannot think of a bigger cop out when it comes to standing by a player that you like.

So, if he was smarter, we can blame him but we assume that he is just dumb and is to stupid to try?

Did you not see how he was actually really trying when Woody took over and was EVEN STEPPING UP ON THE PICK!!?? Did Woody make him smarter over night? Did all he have to say to amare is "comprehend"? Or, Step Up On The Pick?

I don't buy this out all. I cannot think of a worse double standard.

You are making my point. Woody preaches defense and he obviously emphasized it more. I already said Amare tries hard. But he still played horrible defense under Woody because he doesn't get it. He is as dumb as Toney douglas was on offense. Not Anthony Randolph levels but close.

Did he not give more "effort" for Woody? I saw that he certainly did. Did you not see it?

My point is, we all know he is not a good defender but I am talking about not giving the effort that he should. And IMHO, that has zero to do with being dumb.

Do you read what I post or do you just argue? Giving effort and being able to play defense are two completely different things if you are Amare. He can try hard and still fail spectacularly because he has no idea what it is that he is supposed to do. It's not natural to him, he is frozen on defense trying to "think" of the next thing to do.

I know you think or just say that "he tries hard" thats what is so comical. The poor guy gets frozen in his tracks trying to think? You do know how silly that sounds, no?

HE DID/DOES NOT GIVE MAXIMUM EFFORT!! He did try harder for Woody though and seemed far less frozen - Maybe Woody put him on Concerta or Aderol for his A.D.D. and now he can think clearer.

He is a lazy defender and nobody has ever pushed him before Woody. So yes, its partially true - he does not know much about defense since his whole career he had a coach who did not care enough to un-freeze him.

Btw, Melo does not get a pass either. He definitely needs to give a more consistent effort on defense. I refuse to blame it on lack of intelligence.
