When you think about it, he's walking into a situation that has a core, and now has a team and a full training camp of his type of players. No player on the roster is worried about being shipped out, everybody is coming in with there roles defined..

If MDA had what Woodson has now...I see MDA as the best coach (or one of the best) to coach a knick team..I hated MDA for his defensive switching philosophy, hated him for giving role players the green light so much, and hated him for what he did to Steph when we were desperate for a pg(didn't like steph much either) and had one of the better ones in the league (talent wise) in our locker room

But the one thing I could say, MDA is a very good coach who completely got shafted for 4 yrs and never had a lagit shot at all..here comes woodson to reap the rewards..

I say woodson gets fired if this team is not top 4 in the league. Were going to go from a team that played no defense and could score with anybody, to a team with excellent defense that can't score 90 pts and will have the worse shooting % in the league..

The Media and fans alike will be clamoring for his head..The only Thing that will save woodson IS MDA's PLAYBOOK..Trust and Believe that half court style will not work with amare, felton and melo..

The 18-6 run was MDA's playbook for the most part, and he said it in almost every post game..

Man this isn't even worth the trouble. No matter what kind of logic you produce it just isn't worth arguing about MDA in NY. Doesn't matter that MDA had been to the WCF's twice without any defensive anchor and against the top teams in the league in a much stronger Western conference. In the minds of almost all NY fans MDA was a bum.

I'm hopeful that Woody has what he needs to succeed here. I want this team to win a damn title in the worst way. As you've pointed out, they gave Woody EXACTLY what he needs and NEVER did that for MDA. Woody has the kind of players and PG's he likes so we should be really successful from here on out. He'll likely never get a team more suited to what he likes to do.

Woodson gets fired if he underperforms.

But underperform AND have a sexual harassment suit pending and you get extended.

Thats how it works.

Doc didn't do a damn thing but sit there and say, go rondo go( go ask ray allen) and when rondo went down in series with miami, what was DOC doing then, sitting there thinking about his fishing boat and golf clubs, cause he was headed for a long vacation..

funny you said that 18-6 run was melo ball, yeah the six loses was melo ball, the 18 wins was team ball and melo shooting over 50%, rebonding and moving the ball..

cmon dude, having your roster flip twice a yr is not a recipe for success, neither is tony douglas, who was the only pg under MDA that had zero success, just a few good games far and in between. It kills me when people completely take that out of the equation like thats an excuse.

Mike fratello, steve kerr and the other guy who looks like the FLY who does games on ESPN, (forgot his name) was pointing that out in almost every national telecast..not only were they pointing it out, they showed diagrams of the same plays mda was running. The difference was, Melo was making shots and passing..

You really think you can just blatantly state GARBAGE and get away with it? For one thing Doc had a Championship level SL with players that actually fit together and had been thru the wars together. MDA was coaching a team that had just been thrown together and wasn't nearly as good. Then you have the injuries to key players... But let's just ignore the f'n facts. Man GTFO with this BS!

Doc is not a bad coach, but he's far from great, he's done nothing when he had no talent, 20 somthing wins...you think if toney douglas was on boston and they had no kg, while the knicks had rondo, amare and melo...the knicks would sweep the celtics in a blink of an eye.

He called a time out to ask rondo what he wanted to do just like mda did when he had NASH, and byron scott had KIDD..

what the hell was MDA going to tell TD, stop back peddle like your riding a damn bike..Rondo out played TD so bad, it was pure embarrassment..

Im suppose to be impress with doc for beating a team that was missing there starting Pg and 2nd best scorer..Really..you would be grasping for straws if you had to put a pg on the floor who had know understanding whatsoever of how to run a play, let alone a team plus he was even injured..

I could understand your dis like for MDA for his defensive schemes, but to say he should of had TD playing above his potential, is like saying KURT BUSH or JIMMY JOHNSON should be able to win the indy 500 in a NEON, cause there such great drivers.

I never talk about Melo not getting the team out of the 1st rd. My bashing of Melo has almost exclusively been about what he didn't do in the regular season. You're confusing me with someone else. My issue was with Melo shooting 39% for much of the season and not really giving 110% to his team as the teams leader that was his responsibility and he admitted that he didn't bust his ass. We saw what that actually looked like when he finally did start busting it. It was a complete 180 from what he looked like the rest of the year. Imagine what people would say about Lebron if he ever did that in a season?

When I think about the kind of player I want to be the leader and public representative of my team, I don't want a player that doesn't have integrity. IMO not giving 110% is a character flaw that is hard to overlook. For those who defend Melo I don't understand how you can overlook this major flaw in his character. Sacrificing for your team and leading by example are HUGE. This is the man we've sacrificed a ton for and are placing all our hopes in. I hope to God that he actually steps up and does what is needed this year. So far a month of great BB hasn't impressed me one bit.

I don't even accept the bashing of MDA on D. That playoff series against the Celtics the Knicks were paying hard on D. This year with better defensive talent the Knicks played hard on D all year with no support from the offense. Even during Linsanity the most overlooked aspect was how good the team was on D. Remember how MDA was putting a really tough defensive unit out there to close games? Funny how now everyone forgets that. The Knicks were shutting teams down for entire qtrs when they needed to win games. It wasn't some new defense. It was the same D MDA has always run, but with a real defensive C. Remember this. MDA was the one that wanted Jared. MDA was the deciding vote on drafting Shump. This notion he can't coach D or doesn't understand defensive principles was pure garbage. The only reason his teams stunk on D was a lack of talent. Even in PHX he had Nash and STAT up the middle of his D. Just how good could any team be with those 2 right up the middle of the defense? Yet he still managed to have a team in the middle of the league on D and to get to the WCF's twice in the toughest conference!!! No one can take that away from him.

Woodson did outcoach MDA last season. What he prefers to do as a coach just meshed better with last yrs lineup. This new lineup I could see MDA having a lot of success with early on but considering the age factor guys would probably start breaking down toward the end of the season.

Now that's far from the truth...U have to give credit folks who actually watch the games...Doc is an excellent coach...U don't become a good coach day one you take the helm...The guy that coached Orlando isn't the same coach that is coaching Boston...Doc said himself said he just gave Rondo the green light this very year to run the offense...How is that a sign a coach isn't good, it's the right move...I was referring to Doc drawing up three plays in crunch time of the playoffs against the Knicks two years ago, One I remember going to Pierce and the other going to Garnett..The third I don't remember but you are saying Rondo called those plays, are u joking????...I saw Doc draw up the plays on his chalkboard with my own eyes..

Couple problems with this premis.....

If MDA was the best Knick Coach and could not win with the talent (or lack of) that was given to him, what does that make Walsh? According to your line of thought he would have to be a really crappy GM.

If MDA was the best Knick coach, why was Woodson able to lead the team to a much better record, with the same roster and same playbook? You may point to Melo not giving 100% as an answer, however, a coach is paid to win games. Part of that may be to have to motivate players or make adjustments based on the type of talent a roster has.

MDA may be a good coach, but he failed here and then quit on the team mid-year. Think about it as if a prominent player elsewhere is brought to the Knicks and in his 4th year decides he no longer wants to play for a team and benches himself mid year and ride out his contract on the pines. Would we be praising that player as the best Knick ever?

So you are willing to hold Melo accountable thru injury of the wrist and hamstring and unwilling to hold MDA accountable because he doesn't have "his" players??..Good coaches make adjustments and coach to his team's talent...I'm not making any excuse for Melo or any other player not giving 100% all the time..What I do understand is how a star player the likes of Melo and Amare could have gotten discouraged in MDA's offense this year...If Melo and Amare is running up and down the court hard the first few possessions and guys like JJ has the green light to jack up threes as soon as they touch the ball...It is human nature not to run as hard the next time if you think you won't get the ball up court...I'm not saying it's right but I see how this can happen...I also see how a guy like Amare can be discouraged to have Jermey Lin wave him off...An all world player like Amare, and the coach does nothing and encourages it with his silence!!!!...Jeremy Lin took more shots nightly than Amare...Steve Nash didn't take more shots than Amare...Jemery Lin is not on the same stage or class a player as Amare or Melo but this coach allowed this folly...Yes, I understand why these players can have doubts about their head coach and thus mentally not allowing u to go 100% when it's not really their intent...I get it...These aren't robots..

He's not playing point fwd, and has a really good pg to play with..explain that

1st of all STAT had most of his success playing for and in MDA's system. Do you really think it was somehow MDA's plan for STAT not to be at his best last year and to have lost his jumper and much of his mobility? The dude was not right physically for much of the year. No way can you blame MDA for STAT not having his best year. Also Lin was practically a rookie. The kid has a lot to learn still and you think it's easy to learn how to balance scoring and passing when you're a scoring guard and all of this is new? You talk like Lin had all this experience and could put it all together. Furthermore, when Lin took over STAT was still trying to get it going and meanwhile the team was winning!!! The period of time you're bashing MDA for not making adjustments was something like 20 games with Lin playing. You make it sound like it was an entire season.

There's nothing you've presented that would explain a rationale for Melo not giving 110% last year. NOTHING!!! In fact your entire argument is weak when you actually look at the time period that you're referencing being so small and the fact that Lin was an inexperienced PG thrust into an unbelievable situation. You would have us believe that STAT got discouraged by the team winning during Linsanity? NO he got discourage when Melo came back and trashed the vibe and the team went 2-8!!!

Don't say another word in this thread if you're gonna spew this crap.

You are all too willing to hold Melo accountable for not getting past the first round no matter who is on the roster or who is injured, except when MDA was coaching...Go figure how that works!!!!

Stat also got discouraged when he was schooled by Bosh and the Heat and got beat up by a spunky Fire Extinguisher.

You gonna pin stupidity on Melo too lol.

That damn woodson has got it made, did he really make MDA look bad
