Good pick-up imo, especially with Shump not back until mid-season. Wing defenders are prized in today's NBA.

I like his defense, but I'm very worried about our three point shooting. Still, brewer won't be disruptive if his minutes get cut when Shump returns.

can't really complain with just the vet minimum to offer.
I would still prefer Delfino and AK47

Now this is a HUGE move. I know it may not seem like it, but every additional defensive player added only multiplies the effectiveness of the teams D. Guys like Brewer, JR and Shump will be huge late in the season defensively. If you have a lineup with Felton, Shump, Brewer, Camby and Tyson, that's a shutdown unit right there. For stretches of each game we can put a purely defensive unit on the floor and that can be a huge plus this year.

I like this move a lot. It's crystal clear that Woody and Glen are trying to build a top defensive team that can handle a team like the Heat or Thunder. That's really bigtime thinking if you wanna win a title. We're gonna have a lot of live bodies this year, despite having added so many older vets.

I like it. The Knicks aren't tempted to bring Shump back too soon. It also means more competition in training camp for the starting SG spot.

Excellent pickup....We need defensive minded swing men, if we plan on winning a championship.

Shump on wade....Brewer on Bron.....I can't wait.

Brewer really completes our defensive lineup at all positions.

I love offense, but a team with solid defenders at every position is key to any championship run.

Knicks Defensive Players
PG - Felton, Kidd
SG - Shump
SF - Brewer
PF - Kurt
C - Chandler, Camby

Knicks Defensive CoachCoach - Woodson

You have to give props to our GM for changing our team so fast from an offensive team to a defensive mind set to fit Woodsons schemes, in just one off season.

And for all the Lin lovers, he wouldn't come close to being mentioned on our current Knicks Defensive lineup. Mix these defensive players with Novak, Melo, Stat, Smith.....Thats a perfect balance!

Good pick up by Knicks if he can play back at the form he was in with Utah--that s a really nice get. Chicago was more methodical--if we can play at a faster pace he could easily be back at 10-3-2 50% with good D

This slides JR Smith to the 6th man role where he excelled. I like this move.

Agreed. Defense wins rings and thats the blueprint we are following. Whether we have enough is another discussion, but we are definitely on the right path. I would start Brewer and bring JR off the bench to add offense to the second unit. Brewer will provide the defensive intensity to the back court that we will miss in Shumps absence. We are following the Bulls blueprint with a bit more offense.

This is a sold pickup. He takes high percentage shots, dishes well and is a good defender. Wow, the Knicks are getting old school with the D. I like it.

The only problem I see now is playing time....How will the minutes be distributed?

PG - Felton, Kidd, Pablo
SG - Brewer, Smith, Shump
SF - Melo, Novak, White
PF - Stat, Kurt, Copeland
C - Chandler, Camby

10 man rotation, with the following riding the pine? (Pablo, Shump, White, Copeland)

very solid pickup. athletic wing, can play defense, doesn't need the ball offensively but can slash and clean up around the glass. low-risk, high-reward, i like it.

I hope Smith still starts, we need the shooting in the lineup.

Great pickup. Look at our roster though:

PG - Felton, Kidd, Pablo
SG - Brewer, Smith, Shump
SF - Melo, Novak, White
PF - Stat, Kurt, Copeland
C - Chandler, Camby

Melo and Stat are clearly our two reliable scorers. JR is hot and cold, can't really depend on him if one of the two before mentioned go down. Novak - great shooter but can't create at all.

So, really, we have 1 great scorer in Melo and a pretty good one in Stat. When the playoffs come, the question is "Can our defense (which appears to be great) be enough to overcome the Heats big 3"? This is why I was so against letting Lin go.

Copeland and White might be the wild cards for us. I think we do INCREDIBLE in the regular season, just no so sure about how we stack up against Miami and OKC. We see what they got, both got a big 3, in a sense. We have a big 2, sort of. I feel Lin could have been that missing piece for us.

Brewer is a upgrade over Fields at SG.
He doesn't have the a great shot to spread the floor, but he plays solid defense.
He cuts well, is a smart player, plays team ball, makes good cuts, knows his role, and would be our starter in our current lineup.
Brewer is still young and would fit in well with the starting lineup with his defense, and his smarts/BB IQ, cuts well, ability to finish, and would fit in with Kidd/Pablo.

Iman Shumpert will unlikely be back healthy in NBA shape till LATE season, possibly not in the same shape and a few steps back from what we saw of Iman last season.
Brewer buys us time for Iman to heal and FITs in well with coach Woodson's priority of DEFENSE as a good team defender and solid 1v1 defender at the SG and sometimes SF as well.

Come playoff time someone has to step up but we've built a pretty sold defensive squad. Shump is going to be a huge plus for the team when he gets back. Either way the Heat are going to be tough to beat but the games are played for a reason.
