He was amnestied by the suns a few days ago. He was not in the right system in Phoenix and struggled. Before the suns his team was the team that he was in was the Atlanta hawks and he average double figures and shot over 50 percent from the field.

His coach? Mike Woodson

If he is available for the minimum I would get him in a heartbeat over Sonny Weems

This is a good idea.

I think he still has game left and needs a fresh start elsewhere.

He would be a great signing if he clears waivers.

Childress can play...someone will pick him up but if he does clear waivers it would be an excellent pickup.

An older version of Landry Fields? Why the heck not

josh childress - the sleeper that never woke up.

i'd sign him for the minimum, he's still young, maybe he breaks out, otherwise, i guess he's a solid enough player. wish he could shoot the 3 better.

He's 29 and I don't know what he does well or what role he would fill. He can't shoot from long range, he's a poor rebounder, and he's a poor defender. What would he be bringing to the team?

He's actually an above average rebounder and he moves well without the ball, but you're right abou the rest of his game. You can do worse for a vets minimum.

He used to be an average player, then went over seas and completely lost his game- he absolutely stunk it up on the Suns. If a player can only score 3 to 5 points per game in essentially D'Antoni's system, with Steve Nash as PG, then it's a huge worry. I've been concerned we might sign him (Woody seems loyal to his old players), but no one has even mentioned it as a possibility, so hopefully we won't.

Watch this, and see if you still want him on this team:

He's a very good rebounder and 2 point shooter.

The guy is a good finisher. Decent ball handler...He's better than Sonny weems, Ronnie brewer and Maurice Evans if we had a choice with the veterans minimum.....

He's a very good rebounder and 2 point shooter.

I guess he's a good rebounder for a SF but I'd prefer a good rebounder for a PF or C. And we have plenty of guys who can shoot twos and almost no one who can shoot threes. I don't see what role he fills.

Rebounds help your team. It doesn't matter what position they come from. We definitely could use 3 point shooters but I don't think there's any point in getting a guy who's slightly better at 3s (maybe 38% vs. Childress's 33%) but a much less efficient overall scorer. The one extra 3-pointer made out of every 20 shots isn't that important.

And more rebounds are even better which is why I'd rather have a PF or C who can rebound over a SF. Also, he's averaged less than one 3-pointer/game for almost his entire career. And the last two years he shot 6.3% and 16.7% from 3. There are better players and better fits than Childress available.

We dont need him to score. We need him to defend and rebound for 5-10 minutes a night.
