"Stern met with the media after the Board of Governors held their annual summer meeting, and said the league is looking to add possibly $100 million in revenue by permitting small advertising patches on uniforms starting in the 2013-14 season.

"The view is that the teams would need a significant time; one, to sell the patch; and number two, for adidas to manufacture the uniforms, because the patch that would be on the players' uniforms would also appear on the jerseys at retail," said deputy commissioner Adam Silver, who is handling the uniform change.

Silver said there are revenue projections from European soccer teams the NBA could use."

This is TERRIBLE, I am so disappointed in that. European jerseys are ugly because of all the ads on the jerseys, now we're gonna see that in American sports uniforms :(

Let me just add something.

Stern is a damn clown. What does Stern think this is? NASCAR?. You let one ad go up on a Jersey and the next thing you know, the NBA jersey are going to look like a damn billboard sign. FUCK OFF Stern.

Let's just leave the damn advertisement on the sideline, please.

I wonder which team would do it first?

I really can't see Lakers, Celtics or Knicks doing it, but maybe the Raptors or the Kings... I can see a Rocawear patch on the Nets uniform, if that isn't a conflict with Adidas.

If it means that ticket prices aren't increase as often, or they even decrease, or that there will be fewer TV timeouts then I'm all for it.

You mean how movie prices have gone down since they started showing a half hour of commercials beforehand?

Oh wait...

Don't mind either, as long as it doesn't look NASCAR-ish.

So bad. I caught some of a WNBA game, totally by accident, and noticed it was the L.A. Sparks but the ad on the jersey made it look like they were the L.A. Geico's? It wasn't Geico though, can't remember the ad. Just gross!!

Wait wait wait... you guys are complaining? Just don't buy the jerseys.. that will put a stop to this Stern madness. Supply and demand guys... learn it, cherish it, and LIVE IT. Same applies to Jimmy Dolan owning our Knicks.. if all of us stop buying season tickets, stop buying Knicks accessories.. guess what Jimmy Dolan is going to do?

And we're talking about the NBA, can you imagine the outrage over the "destruction of the purity of the game" if we were talking about football or, even worse, baseball?

Why are most opinions viewed as outrage and complaints on this board? Seems like just opinions being posted on a message board full of...other opinions. The estrogen levels are pretty high in here.

The WNBA ones look awful.

They really need to reconsider. It's ironic that few of the hip-hop acts are trying to bring jerseys back in style at this time as well.

I hate over capitalism but that is America.

It was just a matter of time before this was initiated. Pro sports is a huge part of American culture. Many hours are spent watching sports whether live or on the television.

I see nothing wrong with this. The line was crossed decades ago.

I have a huge issue with this - we are constantly being bombarded by advertising, why do we need to see it on jerseys too? Is nothing sacred anymore?

There is advertising around the stadium, on the sidelines, when you walk in they hand out stuff with advertising on them, even the names of most of the stadiums are corporate now. Yet prices only seem to be going up, the average family cannot afford to go see a game anymore.

I don't feel bad for advertisers who are trying to find new ways of getting eyeball attention, they have over saturated the market and people have started tuning them out (see DVR's, adblockers in browsers, etc.) and now they want to throw something on a jersey. I also don't feel bad for the owners, they make a ton of money off the game and the players.

I think its a bad idea, and I am sure nobody will stop it.
