Jeremy wanted NY -NY wanted Jeremy. It ended because of money but really not the financial cost. It was effect of the contract. I believe that the knick hierarchy sat down and looked at the contract and said we can afford it but can the team afford it. JR was going to resent him, every mistake was going to cause some vet to think why is he getting that amount of money. Every turnover would be questionned, every play would be scrutinized.

this is called rationalization.

jeremy lin would have been fine. what wouldn't have been fine were the massive egos of james dolan and carmelo anthony who couldn't handle the success of a kid that had nothing to do with them. they were threatened and got rid of the problem.

Melo saying that he wanted Lin back is not enough for you?

excuses excuses. Jeremy Lin would've made the team better. JR Smith complaining? If Lin were here, I have a strong feeling JR Smith will be booted first, unless of course, Jeremy Lin turns out to be a bust as some of you predicted (not me, I think he'll get better, at least to earn his starting role) But what's done is done. No point going back and talk about what ifs. Look on the brighter side, Jack Daniel goes well with coke (not the one Jimmy Dolan snorted).

...was that before or after he called Lin's contract ridiculous?

Melo is backed by CAA who are pretty involved in the Knicks power structure (Woodson/Melo/Houston, etc). Melo doesn't have to say a thing for his voice to be heard.

Also, I like JR Smith and all, but it's funny to me that JR Smith is now some flag the Anti-Lin crowd is waving.... does NO ONE remember that JR Smith was one of the most hated players on the team this past season? And that Lin was beloved? Do you guys really forget that quickly?

JR Smith was almost lynched here after his playoffs performance.

He called the structure of the contract ridiculous but feel free to keep hearing what you want. The day the statement was made he said he wanted Lin back but it was not up to him. There's a difference between print and audio which Hahn mentioned during the summer league game. Hahn said it was taken out of context but people prefer to pound away at something that was never there.

He also said he didn't request a trade from Denver. He also said he supported D'Antoni but it wasn't his decision.

But, sure, Melo is a hero and he tried his best to get Lin back but NY just couldn't afford it.

So Melo is now the GM of the Knicks? Great job to Melo than for bringing in Camby, Felton, Kidd and KT as well as resigning Novak and JR.

Dude, your Melo displeasure with regard to Lin should be at Dolan not Melo.

Did you say "lynched"?

JR Smith was almost lynched here after his playoffs performance.

Crzymdups - enough with the hysteria and foul language. JR Smith was not hated by anyone except you. JR Smith competed with passion on defense for every possession in the playoffs, against The World Champions. He has admitted he wanted to shoot better but there was no such outcry over his performance. If it is not to much trouble to step down from your wild-eyed frenzy, you may want to rethink the use of the word "lynched"

At least JR Smith suited up.

Plain And Simple

The Sage - Jeremy Lin/ Williams & Connally running back to Morey and the Rockets (to up their offer) after the Knicks informed they would match the original offer was not cool.

In the eyes of The Dolan Family, they got too greedy and showed a sign of disrespect.

There is no Linsanity in Houston.

People are way to hard on JR Smith the guy had to handle the rock and defend Lebron James.Might of had a small effect on his jump shot. JR wants to be here and took less money to stay.I think he deserves some respect for that

Yes, It seems as thought the re-do of the deal was the problem. If the Knicks had kept their mouth's shut to LIN and the world and just waited to get the deal officially, then LIN would still be here. Not a word to Lin or to the media.

I would like to know if it was HOuston that re-worked the deal and if that is considered shady by NBA standards or, if in fact did LIN go to Houston and tell them the Knicks will match and they better do something?

If it was Houston, then this is all on the Knicks. If it was Lin then this is on Lin.

I doubt we will ever know the truth. The anti-Lin group will always believe the Knicks and really don't care as they got their wish that Lin left. THe pro-Lin group will believe LIN if he ever says anything.

I would like to add that as the Knicks also courted Nash very strongly. I am sure that this did make Lin feel wanted, whereas Houston had Ming talking in his ear and telling him how bad he was wanted in Houston. So the more I think about it, the Knicks really screwed the pooch here. THen again, it is possible they never wanted Lin back and played everyone all along.

I just want the truth! .....

I read an article yesterday but can't find it now that stated the Rockets broke an unwritten NBA rule. Come to think of it I can't ever remember hearing that an offer sheet was going to be given to a player for x amount of years and $$$$ only to have it changed.

Five months later, Morey ensured he would not make the same mistake. The Rockets courted Lin harder than any other team, the Knicks included. They made an initial offer of three years and $19 million — the only formal offer Lin received — during the July moratorium, so named because deals can be negotiated but not signed.

When the Knicks publicly declared they would match the deal, Morey bumped the offer to $25 million, with a $14.9 million balloon payment in the third year that was explicitly intended to make the Knicks squirm. As a high-payroll team, the Knicks would have had to pay a staggering luxury tax, as much as $35 million, in that final season.

Lin and his agents at Williams & Connally got greedy. Morey was desperate to correct his mistake.
