Dolan at his absolute best.
Good point. The only thing that would make it more hilarious would be if he were signing with the Nets.
or the Nuggets, right?
That would be funny too, definitely. You have to take humor in what Jimmy does.
I think in this situation it is more about what Daryl Morey and Jeremy Lin did than what Dolan will do. I didn't think winning the Bird's Rights Case would put the Knicks in a position where another team could offer Lin a contract that might not be matchable by the Knicks. The Knicks had every intention of matching Lin's deal. While I am not an expert on the cba several things have been pointed out about that third year that are pretty scarey. The Knicks would not be able to participate in a sign and trade because of their cap situation. The Knicks would be paying 3.50 for every dollar they are over the cap. Also, what if the Knicks can't trade Lin or Amare before that third year. I want Lin back but I understand why he might not be and I agree with Hahn's column where he said Lin wants to be a rocket and that was why he signed this contract.
Exactly. This is about Lin, and what he and Morey did. This is not about Dolan. Dolan was willing to pay but then got backstabbed by a player who basically was ungrateful.
This is about Dolan's reaction to what Lin did.
What did Lin do? He did what the Knicks told him to do - find the market price for himself.
Knicks could have avoided this by offering him a contract on July 1 - if nothing else, it may have engendered some good will. Knicks played this wrong. Not sure if that was Dolan's call from the jump or Grunwald misread the market, but the Knicks did not play this well and Lin got a huge offer.
And, STILL, if the Knicks don't match they are idiots.
You don't compound one mistake with another mistake.
Knicks made a mistake. It's up to them to bite the bullet or poison pill in this case. Refusing to admit mistakes is the Dolan way though. So get ready for 39yr old Drunk Jason Kidd and 300lb Felton as opposed to one of the young and exciting point guards in the league.
Point guard is a major position in this league. Knicks had a blue chip prospect who they are literally GIVING AWAY to a team that uses sabermetrics and determined Lin was better than Lowry or Dragic.
This is, again, one of the all-time stupid moves. And they aren't even being traditionally stupid, they're being belligerent and vindictive.
Stupid.
