Linsanity just died. The hope and innocence of Lin is gone. He is now just another NBA player. No longer the dream story.

He was going to get paid eventually, but the way this has happened is what makes Lin and Houston look dirty.

It's just business, and the little game Houston and Knicks played, just makes Jimmy Dolan look like a loser in comparison. However, if Jimmy doesn't match that, then Houston will make lots of money, but no guarantee to even make the playoff next year.

In way I agree with his statement. If you are going to be paid like a superstar you better operform like one. One thing Lin has not experienced in NY is the wraith of the fans for subpar play. Life in NY can be as bad as it was good during Linsanity. This being his first full season or what ever excuse he could have no longer matter.

Everyone is setting him up for failure saying he won't be Linsanity....now that he's getting paid they are going to expect it. Linsanity was 25 & 10 with great numbers across the board. He well never be that with the team we have.

I have the kids back for sure. Knicks just gotta win baby

Good for him, he brought the Knicks back to relevance when we were dead in the water at one point. And they earned so much money off of him last season that its only fair that he gets paid handsomely for it. The knicks made way more then 25mil off his name last season alone.

Cry Me A Jeremiah Rivers

Papabear - the love affair with Lin is not poisoned by his contract. He earned the money. Only a cynic would assume that his career will now take a turn for the worse, now that he is able to afford his own place. Sure, sleeping on Landry Field's sofa was cute but this ain't Disney and your idea of a fairy tale ain't got nothin' to do with the grown ass men Lin must compete against in the grown ass NBA.

So, please spare The Answer Man your sappy nostalgia for Jeremy Lin's so-called loss of innocence. Class has just started and Dr. Jason Kidd and The Maestro have some valuable lessons to impart. Or, as Moses Malone said about Hakeem Olajuwon during a Rockets playoff game at halftime (to Julius Erving and Brent Musburger) when asked about the Dream's development over the summer of pickup basketball with him,

"I think I learned him too good!"

Basketball is a team game and Lin is getting in where he fits in.

I'm fine with Lin getting paid more. But it was a dirty way to get it.

I'm more pissed at Houston because when a team announces an agreement, they should stick to it. Virtually no team renegs on agreements. There is a certain amount of trust when one agrees to a business deal. Houston knows that the Knicks will still match their offer. They are not getting Lin. Making the change destroys their reputation.

Innocence Regained

Then again, it sounds as JR Smith has maintained (or regained) a healthy humility for his profession. Compare and contrast Jeremy Lin signing a $25M offer sheet from Houston, to the $2.8M that JR Smith accepted to stay in New York.

“There were options for more money, I’ve got money. I’ve been playing this game since I was 18. Money’s not the option. You can’t be on winning teams forever. I’ve been on losing teams. It’s not a great feeling."

“I really didn’t want to go anywhere else, I was comfortable with my situation. I got a great opportunity from the team to come in and help. I really think I didn’t do that last year. I think I got a lot to prove.” - JR Smith

You do the math.

I don't understand why people are mad. For the Knicks to be good, Lin has to be a league-average starter, not Linsanity. Like it or not, league-average point guards who go to free agency get paid. We're blessed because had we lost the bird rights hearing, Lin would have made less but the Knicks would have no mid-level. This ain't Oklahoma City. Pay the guy and be done with it.

There was no agreement announced by Houston or Lin; everything that was reported were rumors passed on to ESPN and others.
