J.R. Smith done seeking offers and has accepted #Knicks 20-percent bump to $2.8M. Second year is player option.

Glad to have JR back. Every team needs a little crazy. And Woodson seemed to be able to get through to him a little.

JR Smith is awful. Hopefully it's the second and last year we'll see of him.

A little crazy...but I guess he's our crazy now. For the price its a no-brainer.
I'm sure the Jeffries signing will done shortly too.

Mob Deep is officially back.

It's not JR's fault that we didn't have PG's last year at the end. With Lin and Kidd it will be better for JR. He really is streaky but when he's playing at his best there are very few guys we could afford that are on his level. Knick fans have to take a reality check when it comes to our role players. Also this team still has time to make an addition or 2 to make this roster even better. Already its better than last years team!!!

Seeing as we are losing Landry, this seems like a logical move. We just need him to stop chucking. He does the other things well.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

If he can just cool it a bit with the threes I would like him. He's a lot like Crawford offensively. Good handle, nice mud range pull up, but prefers to jack up 3 balls even though he's not that good of a 3 pt shooter. If somebody like Kidd, Woody, or whoever can keep him in line he can help us but I'm not convinced at this stage in his career he's going to change.

JR is a great signing at $2.8 Mil. He's probably worth at least $4+ Mil on the open market He's also a very good defensive player. 1.5 steals last yr.

JR's 3 pt shooting % was down from his career avg but 35% wasn't so bad. He didn't take any more shots than he usually took in Denver. This year with Lin and Kidd facilitating, everyone on the Knicks should be getting better looks and increasing their FG%.

Re-upping JR was a no-brainer. The guy is good enough to spark the team to victory on some nights, and I have full confidence in Woodson and even Kidd to keep him in line. We're not asking him to be our most important player, just a good, solid bench player. I think he'll be that for us. If not, we didn't lose much, so no biggie at all.

Anyone know why his contract was so small? I'm guessing he wanted to be here, and that's all we could afford. If he has a breakout season he can opt out with that player option of his.
Let it be known: I believe in the Knicks this year-- deep into the playoffs, I swear to you my brothers...

I'm not a Smith fan but he's definitely worth $2.8 mil.

The Knicks will have Smith's early Bird rights after next season, meaning they can exceed the salary cap to re-sign the shooting guard if he decides to decline the 2013-14 player option.

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

I just remembered hearing something about JR's younger brother - Chris Smith - guard for Louisville last year. That we would give him an opportunity and/or maybe sign him to minimum contract. As an enticement for JR to re-sign with us.

Chris Smith is on our Summer League team so we'll see what happens there.

JR is pretty mental but the short contract ensures a continued effort on defense. Looking like a great offseason

JR will get his money. ITs kind of crazy he'll make less than Novak.

In a way he is our wild card if he can calm it down a bit.

Im sure he'll get a longer deal with us and I would imagine he has some verbal agreements with us.

We asked him to carry the offense last year at times. He was going to go wild.

Great athlete and very important given we have no draft picks for the next 20 years.

Totally agree. The guy is only 26. Good spot up shooter, able to handle the ball, streaky shooter with unlimited range, and plays good defense. Of course if he wasn't wild we wouldn't be able to afford him.

can't go wrong with a signing like this. i give smith alot of credit because he defintely could have garnered a larger contract on the market, but he he was happy being here since it's close to home. knicks get a solid player and he gets the chance to prove he's worth a much larger contract with his opt-out. awesome.

good deal for us.

mobb deep is pretty much back in full effect now!

to me, as long as we aren't relying on him to carry a scoring load too much (like in the miami series) then he's a good fit.

he seemed to respond pretty well to woodson's tough love, which not all folks can do too.

grunwald has done good this off-season, if you ask me.
