I dislike Dolan big time, however, and I know that I share that sentiment with many here.
It's just not easy pulling for the Knicks when you have a bumbling idiot behind the curtain
running the show. I'm convinced that's why many former great posters here are no longer around.
Ive been a Knicks fan for 25 years, and will continue to be. But a team in Brooklyn run by a Russian billionaire and one of the best selling rappers of all time, against a team run by a failed blues musician who's daddy gave him something to do so he wouldnt drink anymore. Call me more than a bit tempted to consider jumping ship.
Goodbye.
Jeez that's harsh. I did say I have been a Knick fan for 25 years, its just James Dolan has ruined the experience for the last 12. You don't agree?
Do I like Dolan? Absolutely not! But a Knick fan is a Knick fan. Period. That's how I see it. There are 29 other teams in this league. A person is free to take their pick as far as I'm concerned. The Knicks were here before Dolan and it will be here after.
+1
toodarkmark: Dolan doesn't play, doesn't coach, doesn't wear a jersey. He's not the face of the franchise. He's an extremely annoying sidebar story.
Get over it.
The Knicks are bigger than their ownership, and always will be. The Nets apparently, are not. Good for them. May they live long and prosper in Brooklyn. They have a garbled history, no chips, and one shining moment when a HOF PG triple double machine led them singlehandedly to the Finals for a few years while we were wallowing in the downside debacle of the Ewing era's sad demise.
I collected my 69 and 73 championship cards and thought with enough running and practice and tanning, I could somehow become Clyde and Bradley combined. I suffered through McAdon't and Hey!deadwood and Louie OrrElse and Ken the Bannister Animal. I ran errands for Mike Saunders and Eddie Donovan when the Knicks held training camp at Monmouth U. I wore the NYK practice shorts they gave me until they fell apart. I watched the Debusschere clip of winning the Ewing lottery 15 times a day for at least a month straight. I suffered through Charles 4 strikes yer out Smith. I watched the Starks Dunk in your Airness' face until the tape wore out. I watched LJ and that magic backbreaking 4 pointer against the Pacers. I grated my teeth watching Houston disappear in games while Spree played out of position. I stared unbelievingly as they traded Ewing away for nothing. I thought Marbury coming home would be a great thing. I still think Melo being home is.
The Knicks and MSG. The Nets and the Barclays Center. I really don't understand the comparison, but hey, is what makes America great country, no?
Glad to see some long time fans here as well.
I too am at this about 40 years with the knicks and Clyde was my hero! I should have followed Bradley as a role model and hit the books a little harder as well!
Our memories and hero's can never be taken away from us no matter what.
Some will choose sides and stick to them. Some will be NEW YORK FANS and root for the local team that goes the furthest. I always want the Yanks to beat the Mets but if the mets go to the world series against anyone but the yanks im rooting for NY!
Since the KNicks trade all the yoots I have no attachement to the stars we bring in and I suppose the same could be said for the Nets but that makes them very similar. Both are Starphuching. I rooted hard for the Gallo led knicks not just because it was the knicks but you get attached and root for the success of yoots. I respected Melo but was never a "fan' of his. Same for Amare and Tyson. Same for Deron, Joe Johnson and Dwight. They are other teams players.
Its not like Clyde, Willis and Bradley. Those were our guys! Debussure and Earl came in trades and in time blended in great.
Ewing was our guy and I hated all the Starphuch attempts. Doc Rivers, Harper, Vandewigh, etc were not "our GUYS". Mase and Starks were knuckle heads but they were "Our Guys". Larry Johnson earned his stripes with his effort and grit as did oak but it takes time. Spree was a cast off and we embraced him becasue of his intensity on and off the court.
Now we get a guy like melo its "good riddence" to "our guys" and we suppose to bow down the the new starphuch and love him? Thats not so easy for me. They have to earn their way in. Not just smile.
Im approaching 20k posts here soon and this december will be on the UK 9 years. Thats about 6.4 posts a day average. I can't say I love the "gun for hire" approach that is in Miami and in NY. Lakers getting 18 year old Kobe and Bynum and keeping them goes a long way for Laker fans to stay with the team. Knicks have not had a home grown player of note since Ewing that can be called a "Career player" and an allstar.
A guy like H20 can become a favorite but it takes a few years and memories created.
So in a way the Nets are Knicks now and the first one to win a championship will own the city.
But The Nets will own Europe as well. The Russian thinks big. Lin is a god send for Dolan but the problem is the Nets will be marketed as a team in europe where Lin is the draw in Asia. If he pans out the knicks can become "asias" team. But if not, Knick interest will subside.
There will be at least 4 "Must see" games now in NY! That is something to look forward to!
