Papabear Says

We are being used again. What the heck is Houston doing? Then know we can't let Lin go so why bother. Houston already picked our pockets already. Now they want to stick it up our butts. i don't know what Dolan is doing. All I know is this if we don't something even if it means going over the salary cap we will be in big trouble if the Nets get Howard.

Let's be fair, its the $$$ and the chance to compete for a title for many of these players.

We cant offer money and on top of that U get taxed extra working in NYC.Plus we are longshot title contenders more like pretenders. Like 8 teams that have a better chance.im really down on this franchise I hate being a Knick fan. i wish I could just stop liking them and like someone else but it wont work. I already know whats going to happen. We are going to get butt jammed by the Raptors on the Lin deal. We are going to pay him 15 million in year 3 and 4 and it will be the worst contract in the NBA by then. We will sign Raymond Felton who will actually be better then Lin but makes 10 times less.We will then sign another low level SG and be ousted in the 1st round

Adding anything but a backup guard was a pipedream anyways. At this point we should add the BPE for the MLE, let's say Kidd or Felton, and see what we can do this year. We added White as depth until Shumpert gets healthy. Resign Smith and start him in the meantime (if not the entire season because of his shooting ability.) I think we can have a great season with a full year from this team.

C Chandler/Harrellson
PF Stoudemire/Jeffries
SF Anthony/Novak
SG Smith/White (Shumpert when he returns)
PG Lin/(Felton or Kidd)

We got lucky with our roster last year, and I said this in a number of threads - we might never be able to put together as much talent in a supporting cast as what we had last year.

Fields- for what he is worth - gone.

Novak?

I assume we're getting JR Smith back.

Bibby? Davis? All guys that contributed or were to contribute veteran minutes? Over the hill now.

JJ?

And Lin, coming back at what cost to future cap/roster flexibility?

We have a small window, but I'm not sure we have enough to get over the hump that will be other teams - Miami, Chicago, the Lakers, OKC.

Sure- you don't know what is going to happen, but in terms of realistic outcomes based on the past statistical record, it does not look good for this franchise for the next 5+ years as far as being a title contender.

Knicks made their big moves the previous two seasons. With 3 million dollars and the 48th pick in the draft hOw were they supposed to transform the team?

The Knicks still have plenty of options and plenty of backcourt spots to fill. One of them won't be filled by Steve Nash, though. That might not feel great on opening night later this year ... but when Iman Shumpert's healthy and ferocious in 2014, and Nash is Jason Kidd with a better shot, we bet you'll feel a lot better about missing out yesterday. Patience, grasshoppers. - Will Leitch

Bonn1997 - Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler compose our big two. Amar'e Stoudemire is the third component of a very strong frontcourt.

That combination has been together for one, strike-shortened, abbreviated, no training camp season. Steve Novak was a discovery and Jeremy Lin was magical. Iman Shumpert, who was booed on draft night, may be damaged but he is a quality ballplayer.

That makes six solid men to build with.

The next three choices are important. That makes nine. The other three slots are filler.

No, No, No, the sky is falling, the sky is falling!!! All I can remember about this past season is whining about cap space and draft picks! We're never going to get out of the first round of the playoffs! EVER!!! It's all over!!! The Nyets are going to win a chip next year!!! We're doomed to becoming the new Bobcats!

We have a core in place, will have a couple of good pg's..lets not automatically assume were doom because we didn't get nash.

I don't mind us being over the cap in 12/13 and 13/14 because those contracts will be a yr away from expiring and can always be used as trade bait.

By the time our contracts expire, this yr's FA class will be ending their rookie contracts and will have a boat load of $..

Exactly. Sheesh, thank the sweet baby Hayzoos that you knee jerk GMs aren't making the decisions. We have to plan not only for this version of the team (which while imperfect certainly CAN compete for a chip - friggin Sprewell got us to the Finals) but also for the next version. If we develop Lin and Shump while trying to get a chip with our current studs, they will be in their prime when we replace our current starphuckers with the next batch who will be a LOT younger.

Nobody said gettin Melo would guarantee us reaching the Finals. They still gotta show up and earn it.

Yeah it's amazing how wrong the skeptics have been with this team and how right those predicting a .750 season last year were. You can mock me and others for being too realistic, which comes across as doom and gloom to you, but do you remember which two posters actually correctly predicted the exact win total the Knicks would have last year?

I'm excited to see what this team can do healthy. I want a full season of Lin. I want Shump to come back healthy. I think Felton is a good addition if that works out.

I think Amar'e comes back in better shape and a better frame of mind - people tend to forget his brother dying mid-season.

I think next year will be quite good.

Are we gonna win it all? No. We're not gonna win it all. At least, probably not. But hey, maybe Linsanity wasn't a fluke. Maybe Amar'e comes back a little more focused and develops his pick and roll timing with Felton again. Maybe Melo commits to being a leader. Maybe the defense is still 5th best in the league. Maybe Steve Novak shoots 48% from 3pt range. Maybe the Knicks pick up Shawne Williams on the cheap and he also shoots 48% from 3pt range and plays solid defense again. Maybe Tyson wins a second straight Defensive Player of the Year Award.

There are good things to look forward to. I'd be really excited if Shumpert were ready to Day one of training camp, but it'll probably be mid-season.

Otherwise, there is plenty to look for next season that can be good.

I rather have Felton than douglas, bibby & baron and I would take Camby over relying on the often injured jeffries and someone like foye over fields. I like our team nexg year

Excellent Point Knix

Add one quality backcourt veteran and start the engines

Just for kicks and our beloved Knicks

C Chandler (elite defense)/ tbd/ Jordan
PF Carmelo Anthony (elite scoring)/ Harrellson
SF Lamar Odom (versatility)/James White (shift changer)/ Papanikolaou (more versatility)
SG JR Smith (defense)/ Novak (scoring)/ Shumpert (February, maybe - elite defense)
PG Lin (serendipity)/ Felton (tenacity)/ Summer League discovery (depth)

Our big 3 have about 30 years of wear and tear. They still played in about 85% of the games last year. It isn't likely that they will be more healthy than that this year.

Earl Odom went to the Clips. He would've been the perfect unselfish big off the bench
