Baker will be a good pickup if he stays sober. Look at his game stats with the C's and they started great and steadily decreased as he became more unhealthy.

I agree with you 100% Andrew. Its just scary how someone can give up so much money due to an alcohol problem. Hopefully he realizes how much is at stake here and he has overcome his problems.

I like how he choose to play here despite the possibility of getting more playing time in Miami....leads me to think that if the Knicks want him back he will be here next year. The more playing time in Miami would have givin him a better chance at a contract with another team next year.

I like it...if he stays sober, personally, Id rather have him in there than Kurt Thomas. But make no mistake about it, this signing better not affect Sweetneys minutes in any way. This kid is on the right path and hes only gonna get better with continued playing time.

It shouldn't effect Sweets, cause Vin will most likely be our backup center, subbing in for Nazzy.

thats true I didnt think about that. With Deke out, Vinnys a center by default (although his game isnt very centerish)

I think they should sit down Othella. DeMarr can only get better he just needs the time. As for Othella its unfortunate but we already know what he brings to the table and its not much!!!

What I like about his signing, is that NY has DEPTH in the front court that is UNMATCHED in the EASTern Conference. In addition, their guards are pretty good too. This team will improve as they play more together. They will be better April 15th than March 15th, I just hope they make the playoffs!

If NY plays Det, Baker can be the answer to Rasheed. KT/Nazr/Sweets can take care of the other Wallace. NY has a slight edge in SF and Guards. NY can win that series, in my opinion.

The smart thing to do is IR Othella. This will provide more minutes for Sweets and Vin. That is the only way we can really tell if he's ready or not. To be honest I rather have an unsure Baker than a healthy Othella.

funny when i posted about how much I wanted Baker a few months ago mostly everyone hated the idea.

I really like the chance we're taking on Baker. He big enough to play backup center, like coleman did for Philly. He won't effect Sweetney, if anything he can take some of Kurt's minutes away for all I care. Also, just incase we don't get Rasheed next year, we can trade KT for another need or a pick and start Baker at PF unless Sweetney is going to breakout next year.

I don't think the booze will be a problem and even if it is..who cares, he's only making 1mil. The Knicks now finally have someone who cam score in the post consistently. Sweetney might be getting there but this is still only his first year.

Can Vin Baker play in the playoffs?

if not then I hate this because we were gonna make the playoffs anyway without Baker, it's not like we're gonna win the division just by adding Baker.

so is he allowed to play in the playoffs?

yes he was a FA before 3/1. He is playoff eligible
