What about the rest of the roster?

It’s little more than a pipe dream at this point.

But let’s say the Nets are able to land Dwight Howard to go along with Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace, forming the Fantastic Four.

Then what? How do they fill out the rest of the roster?

The Nets currently have the $5 million mid-level exception and $1.95 million bi-annual exception at their disposal.

The mid-level is expected to go to Bosnian stretch forward Mirza Teletovic, while Jason Kidd wants to back up Williams, so perhaps he gets the bi-annual? At that point, the Nets would have six players under contract.

They also have two trade exceptions ($3 million and $1.3 million), which were created when Mehmet Okur and Shawne Williams were sent to Portland for Gerald Wallace.

Beyond that, the Nets would only be able to spend the minimum salary on players (including their three first-round picks; Tyshawn Taylor is expected to be the only one to play on the roster next season) since they’d be over the salary cap.

Players on the Nets’ summer league roster like Adam Morrison and Julian Wright are candidates to fill those remaining spots.

We are screwed . Yet another East team better then us. We will be battling just to make the playoffs again next year. Im so pissed. We built this team with parts that dont fit. We tied ourselves down with flawed players

I agree. Wonder if Kidd will chose the bi-annual in Brooklyn or the mle in NY(assuming Nash goes to Toronto).

Nets dont have the bae(lle) They already used the mle on the european. You get one or the other. They have a 3mil trade exception & vet min deals. Kidd is not a trade candidate. We can get kidd for up to the full mle now if we dont match fields

they will probably offer AK47 with that 3m

Wow, Deron, Joe Johnson, G Wallace and possibly Dwight Howard? With Evans. And I root for a Russian billionaire and Jay Z instead of James Dolan as an owner? Hmmm.

Ive been a HUGE Knicks fan since 1987, but I grew up in BK and detest James Dolan. 25 years I've spent bleeding blue and orange, but maybe this is a sign from up above?

This year, they go with vet minimums. Next year, they'll have the draft plus some sort of exceptions to fill out their roster. If I remember correctly, when Miami signed the Big 3 two Summers ago they had Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Mike Miller, Chalmers, and Udonis Haslem. They filled the rest of their roster with minimum guys and then used the draft and their exceptions to get the role players needed to win a championship this year.

Posters here are always complaining about "starphucking" because of how the Isiah years went. What you all seem to ignore is that none of the guys we paid were actually stars you could build a team around, they were role players being paid star money. The lesson everyone seems to have taken was that front offices shouldn't gut their team to get star players. The lesson everyone should have taken is that star players are extremely difficult to acquire and role players are a dime a dozen. Also, don't pay role players like they're stars.

That's a tough team to beat, with or without Howard. Size, length, athleticism, shot, put backs, boards, heart.
Fuck me. Brooklyn could be a beast. Good thing I'm not one of those absolute Nyets haters.
