If they make a sign and trade with Fields, Douglas, and filler headed out, is that the plan? This assumes that with each player playing approx. 30-32 mpg, Lin is still spending at least half of his playing time at the PG position. Also, it assumes having big SGs like Smith and Shumpert off the bench who are capable defenders in case there are major mismatches. Does this rotation work, or does it have Marbury/Francis written all over it?

Sign and trade leaves an exception to fill the sg role

Lin can defend off the ball and I will not judge him just on one "year". Now if he has years of bad D like Amar'e and Nash then talk about him all you want. Also what pg plays D in this league? Lawson and Miller/Felton played and none of them where defensive specialist.

6'3" SG is OK. You don't have to have a perfect lineup to win games. Our 6'10" starting PF is a much bigger problem on defense than Lin would be.

You read my mind. Amar'e has t play at another level for that to work or he could be off the floor. Anyway it is not like they would play all game together. It is more like 10-15 minutes.

It's okay when you are Wade & Starks not so great when you are Jeremy Lin

If this trade happens and Lin, Melo, and Nash are on the floor together you now have 3 great PnR scorers and 1 great passer and 2 good passers of the PnR with 2 of the best rolling big men. Through in that Melo can also be the screener and that is scary. Put JR at the 3 and Melo at the 4 with Tyson and you have 10 minutes of fun.

What about when you are Jason Terry?

Ellis is a great comparison in this case.

because he & the Bucks play such inspiring defense as a 6ft SG. And Terry is a good defender despite being undersized

Not sure they would be the starters but I think you'd see at least 10-12 minutes of them playing on the floor at the same time. I'm not sure you are going to ask Nash to play more than 28-30 mpg at PG at 39 years old. That means at least 18-20 minutes for Lin at PG and 10-12 at some hybrid of PG and SG. So roughly 28-32 mins for both players.

nash/lin backcourt with Amare would be a nightmare defensively. NY media loves to build guys up then tear them down

For the time Nash/Lin would be out there the team is sure to be scoring at a high % and it doesn't mean that teams would automatically be scoring on us at the same clip. At least Lin has good size for a PG. Woody could go Zone during that time much like the Mavs did to protect their guards!

you guys remember mike woodson is the coach of this team, right? and he likes defense? there's no way he'd play lin and nash side by side for more than short stretches.

also, we likely aren't getting steve nash, so there's that, too. sounds like raptors and mavs have more money on the table and just as much to offer as new york in various ways.

Woodson is a Boddy Knight guy. Doesn't believe in playing zone D. Although it is how you beat the Heat

Can't wait til he signs with one of them so new york fans and media can move on and we can focus on more realistic options

yeah, zone defense and being able to score inside. hibbert gave them fits... and it got him a max contract.

knicks need to get amar'e and melo on the low post in good position a lot more often next year. also, they have to go to tyson more, even if it's just lobs. the heat literally have no way of stopping a guy like tyson. (or dwight, which explains why everyone wants him)
