Well, with it being only about an hour away I'd figured it would be nice to have all FA related discussion in one thread.

Here is some news I have seen on twitter:

The Suns, Bobcats, Wizards, Sixers, and Knicks are all expected to pursue free agent big man Jared Jeffries, source says.

The Nets and Hawks are in discussions about a trade that would send Joe Johnson to Brooklyn. Very interesting to say the least.

So the Magic GM met with Howard today in L.A. and was told by Dwight that he wants to be traded to the Nets. Here we go again.

Chris Broussard ‏@Chris_Broussard
Hennigan did not tell Howard whether he would or would not trade him; he just heard Howard out.

So the Rockets are offering Kevin Martin, Donatas Motiejunas (however you spell), Lamb, White/Jones to the Hornets for Eric Gordon.

The Memphis Grizzlies will attempt to woo Ray Allen when free agency begins Sunday, reports Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial-Appeal. The Grizzlies will reportedly offer Allen their full mid-level exception worth $5 million per season.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have declined to make qualifying offers to forwards Michael Beasley and Anthony Randolph, making them both unrestricted free agents.

The Rockets believe that if they attempt to sign Gordon, that the Hornets will simply match, so they are attempting to do a sign and trade instead.

The sign and trade offer will center around Kevin Martin and the Rockets will allow the Hornets to choose either two or three of their young prospects- Jeremy Lamb, Royce White, Patrick Patterson, Terrance Jones, and Donatas Montiejuns. It is no secret that the Hornets targeted Kevin Martin last summer in the original CP3 trade, and Dell Demps has been fond of Montiejunas for some time now.

Steve Novak’s agent says Novak “loved New York” but will test the free agent market beginning at 12:01 a.m.

Novak, the Knicks’ sharp-shooting small forward, won his “Early Bird Rights” on Friday, along with point guard Jeremy Lin. The Knicks can now re-sign both players by going over the salary cap and still keep their mid-level exception.

“It’s a good thing for Steve,” Mark Bartelstein told SNY.tv of the “Bird Rights” ruling. “It gives us a lot more flexibility and a lot more options. This is always what you want, as many options as you can have regarding free agency. He’s a free agent and we’ll see what happens.”

Novak played at Marquette and the New York Post pointed out that the Milwaukee Bucks could pursue him, but Novak told Newsday he is “optimistic” about returning to New York.

“They would love to have him back,” Bartelstein said of the Knicks. “I’m sure [Knicks GM] Glen Grunwald and I will talk tonight or [Sunday]. Woody [coach Mike Woodson] was great for him, as was Glen and the fans.

“He’ll be a free agent and we’ll jump into this thing.”

Meantime, another potential Knicks target, free agent point guard Steve Nash, is being heavily courted by the Toronto Raptors, according to reports.

Sam Amick of SI.com reported that sources told him “a group that includes team governor Larry Tanenbaum, GM Bryan Colangelo, and coach Dwane Casey is flying overnight from Los Angeles tonight [Saturday] on Tanenbaum’s jet in order to be the first team to greet…Steve Nash in the morning.”

Nash said last week he would be “open to everything,” including the Knicks and the Nets. He’s Canadian and playing in Toronto would allow him to play in his home country.

Meantime, the agent for Knicks’ draft pick Kostas Papanikolau told the New York Post that the 6-8 Greek forward whom the team drafted at No. 48 wants to play for the Knicks in 2013-14.

“He definitely wants to play in the NBA, it’s a lifelong dream of his,’’ Marc Cornstein told The Post. “He’s playing at the highest level in the Greek League and it’s the next step. He’s anxious to play sooner than later. He wanted the right fit with the right team and the Knicks we would’ve handpicked.’’

He has a $1 million buyout of which the Knicks can pay about $650,000, the Post reported.

But Cornstein told SNY.tv by text, “The opportunity will be there for him to come next season.”

Cornstein said of his client: “[He brings] intensity, he’s a good shooter and he’s a hard-nosed player who has already won at the highest levels of European competition.”

If the Nets don't do a deal for Joe Johnson, they're considering a significant offer for Memphis shooting guard O.J. Mayo, Y! sources said.

One good thing is that you are not hearing any rumblings on JR. I know this has been said but the Knicks could really help themselves by including Amar'e in a three team trade where they take back one bad contract and still leave room to sign a big in FA plus use the MLE. Brooklyn will need help getting Howard and the Rockets may need help trying to get someone.

Back to reality. Go get Beasley.

I really don't want to overpay Novak. I hate to say it, I think he's tremendously overrated. We thought we'd never be able to replace Shawne Williams... and it was pretty easy, right? Novak. And the Nets immediately regretted giving Shawne Williams 2yrs $6M.

Let someone else overpay Novak. I hate to say it. He got exposed in the playoffs and we can do better.

also, for all the OJ Mayo haters, I wonder why so many quality NBA teams are chasing him...

Berger reporting this is on hold but both teams will revisit. Friends of mine that are Nets fans are telling me the team is trying for Joe Johnson.

Sounds like a typical Nets move. They're still looking for someone to fill the void left by Travis Outlaw.

What about Harden being traded from the number two pick. Sometimes its just a smoke screen. Who knows. A little Kansas City Shuffle.
