MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Timberwolves have declined to make qualifying offers to forwards Michael Beasley and Anthony Randolph, making them both unrestricted free agents.

The Timberwolves announced the expected moves Saturday. They also extended the deadlines they had to reach buyout agreements with veterans Martell Webster and Brad Miller to allow them more time to try to work out trades involving both players.

Beasley averaged a career-low 11.2 points per game last season while battling numerous injuries. The $8.1 million qualifying offer for the former No. 2 overall draft choice caused the Wolves to move on.

Randolph averaged 7.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in sporadic playing time last season. He could return to the team if he signs for less than his $4 million qualifying offer.

so much for the Knicks regretting not giving AR minutes. Will everyone who was killing Pringles at least admit now the dude just can't ball enough to get burn in this league?
Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

I never killed MDA for that but I still believe Randolph can play. Problem is that he pretty clearly has some sort of emotional problems and needs to be in therapy. If he ever gets his head on straight I think he'll be a damned good player.

He hasn't done a lot to distinguish himself and based on his number I don't think he's worth more than the MLE. But, if the Nets lose DWill, and by extension Dwight Howard, they're going to want to try and make some sort of splash in their first season in Brooklyn. I could see them overpaying Beasley and OJ Mayo and trying to sell their fans on Brook Lopez and the 2nd and 3rd overall picks in the 2008 draft.

now this is a lefty we could use to play starting SG, SF, and have Melo Beasley play both forward spots.
Think he is the FA we should call, not Nash, just wasting time....
Lets make this revive this Heat/Knick rivalry, I am sure Beasley wants a piece of that franchise.

We still need to save enough money for a backup point guard but Beasley would help as a 2/3 shooter and also as a decent backup 4 if needed

Beasley is the best bang for the buck in terms of talent IF his head is on straight. He could play 6th man 30 minute role easily here and give us a bigger body to guard Lebron

Randolph just needs to play pure 4 and give up the between position. When a GM says fit within the system--Randolph only does that if he plays pure 4--but certainly his age ball handling rebounding shot blocking energy will entice a team for sure

best way to get Beasley is a S&T giving them Landry and Gadzuric. They can cut Gadz and save some money.

I still like Randolph. I think if you want him to succeed you have to hope he is taking the Jermaine O'Neal path. Knicks don't have roster spots but if they did I hope they would consider him.

They both have a ton of talent... but if you actually want them, you are probably more likely to be a developing team than an established one.

Come to think of it- Minnesota was a developing team and they just released them. What should we conclude from that.

Yeah, Love is the man on Minny, and the offense will go through him, but we have the exact situation with C. Anthony- so I have to wonder if someone like Beasley can be on the same court with Carmelo and actually play the role of a role player.

Both players want to have larger roles than coaches seem willing to give them. We already know how Randolph is, and undoubtedly MDA and his staff saw even more than we did before deciding how little he would play for us.

Beasley needs the ball to be effective. You want to play him when Anthony is on the bench- fine- but you have to realize that he is going to want to have a greater role in the offense than we are probably willing to give him. He is an iso player like Anthony, who is going to disrupt a team oriented offensive approach. Of course if you want a player to take over Anthony's isolation ball role when he is on the bench- Beasley is your man.

I would pass on these guys at this point in their respective careers.

Paladin - for starters you can conclude they weren't worth the QO. Secondly, one headcase per team is the max. We have JR, who is a recovering headcase. I would still take a chance on beasley off the bench but I agree with you, he needs the ball and that breeds bad chemistry.

Beasley is a poor mans Odom...I can see the kid Filling in a bench role similar to Odom. He might be available for the mid level. Knicks top priority is sitting guard and point guard
