Sorry to learn of the passing of former Knick Pat Cummings. He was PF for few seasons before the Knicks became a team to reckeon with in the east. I remember yelling at the tv over him cause I was thought he was too slow but nonetheless gone to soon at 55.

Ray Williams living in his car in Florida.

Pat Cummings found dead on a pull-out couch in Greenwich Village.

For every one of these stories, I wish the rags would publish something happy about an ex-Knick who's living happy and contented with all the money they earned.

Good news is not an event.

Bill Bradley has a new book out. Phil Jax is the blingiest coach in history, Clyde is an institution, Willis is retired back south, Mase is not dead and his kid is a good player, the list is long.

Athletes have enlarged hearts and even perscription drug use can take a big toll. The Roid generation is starting to hit their 50's and I fear many will be dropping like flies the next 10 years.

The life expectancy for NFL linemen with 5-10 years in the league is only like 57 years old.

Wow, Pat Cummings that's a blast from the past. Sorry to hear of his passing. I still remember those 80s Knicks under Hubie Brown and Bob Hill. What could've been had Bernard King and Pat Ewing were healthy at the same time...

He avg 15ppg the YEAR BEFORE Ewing got here. Team won 24 games. This was the year Bernard was avg. 32 a game and went down. He played 63 games.

Not every year with Bernard was great btw.

Cummings was out of the league 9-10 years before Layden took over.

Imagine this front line, when you feel the urge to complain about our current starphucques:
Pat Cummings - C
Ken Bannister - PF
Louie Orr - SF

Not to speak ill of the dead (but I will anyway), but I suffered through that enough at the time to make me wanna start following intramural men's field hockey. Almost.

Didn't we have the Kiki Vandewhee experiment during this era (error) too. He was suppose to be the outside of the inside/outside with Patrick. What a frustrating period for me as a Knick fan.
Vandewhee's back was shot and he could barely move let alone play basketball.

I gave you the link. Hit the NYK and you can see the roster that year, and subsequent years before or after. Great way to put the time line back in. After 20 years it all gets muttled. Some posters think Mase and LJ played together and forget many roster moves. Its easy to forget.

YOur time line is funny. Pat Cummings PLAYED with Ernie Grunfeld!. Layden replaced Ernie as GM!

I think folks are confusing him with terry cummings...the ex buck and ex spur...i know i was confused at first
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Looking through the link that Nalod provided I see that Pat Cummings and Kiki Vandawhee weren't on the team at the same time. Cummings last year was '87 and Vandawhee's first was '88. Either wat weren't a good time at the time.

Pat started out with the Bucks, too. Kind of frightening that people would get the two confused.

Sad news. I played some pickup bball with Pat Cummings in the early 90s in NY after his playing days. He could barely get up and down the court because of old injuries, but he still could put the ball through the hoop. RIP.

Wow, we need an "Anyone played ball with Ex-Knicks?" thread.

I have Clinton Wheeler and Butch Beard. Got housed beyond belief both times (no surprise).
