Melo says at unveiling of his wax figure that he's lost 12 pounds since playoffs.

Discuss

Melo is physically talented enough to be a Top 10 NBA player. He just never struck me as a guy that would put in the effort of a Lebron James. If he is motivated and dedicated to give it on both ends for 48 minutes they can win

Like many others have said, the spotlight is on Melo this upcoming season. This is the make or break year.

He also is going to play ball for team USA. Maybe he will come in in great shape.

im glad melo is taking his physical condition more seriously because it will help him in the long run. I think melo has the mindset Lebron had last summer after the heat lost. Im still worried about Amare being stupid

with our luck he will get into strength training, show up looking like Lebron and no longer be able to shoot a jumper.

Again great news. A guy they forced the franchises hand and takes up 1/3 of our cap, got the coach fired, gave a half assed effort for most of the season and played out of shape all last year is taking his offseason serious.

The bar is low

maybe with him losing 12 pounds we can raise that bar up a bit?

Owner wanted melo. Dantoni was given 4 years and talent the past two but couldn't put it together. He chose to resign and received his salary. Melo improving his body and focus is a good thing.

Ive lost about 5.

IM taking my game more seriously now in the off season. Im going to Tim Govers in August to "get ready"!

IM working on core strength to help with injuries and most important....

New teeth whitner!

Melo is:

Ncaa champion
Multiple allstar
Top 10 scorer
Olympic gold metalist
New York Knick

He makes over 20 million a year BEFORE endorsements. His Wife also makes some nice money.

Fans are asking for him to be a savior and take us to the promised land.

Are we exibiting what we (fans) want or is this even feasible?

Need more backup bigs in addition to JJ and Jorts to be serious.

you took the word right out of my mouth. I think that type of transformation is easier on rooks and younger guys whose bodies haven't fully matured. Guys in the older 20s and 30s find it harder to adapt to such physical changes. Look at when Kobe bulked up...his jump-shot was off and he quickly slimmed back down.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Happy to hear that he has lost the weight. I guess that looking good on a national stage was more important than being lighter when he played for us. 230lbs with a lower body fat % would be nice.

On a less cynical note- he doesn't have a Kobe type of motion/form on his shot- I think it is a little shorter, with less extension over/behind his head. I could actually see someone like Dirk having issues if he did a Bonds/Sosa and came back too ripped.

Working on his legs is also important, as everyone knows. To be a complete player you have to have your legs at the end of the game.

Working out with Chandler is something he should try to continue to do in the off-season. Always better to have someone around to push you. May Anthony can help him on his offense.

Encouraging news, though. Hope he keeps it up.

Carmelo Anthony: 'My time is coming'
By Jared Zwerling
ESPNNewYork.com

NEW YORK -- Now that LeBron James has done it, Carmelo Anthony is ready to shed the label of one of the best players in the NBA without a title. Soon.
"I believe that my time is coming," Anthony said Tuesday morning at Madame Tussauds New York during an unveiling of his own wax figure. "I'm a big believer in that, whether it's this year or next year. I truly believe that my time is coming and we're going to keep playing for that."

Anthony has been working hard in the offseason to get there after being criticized in past years for carrying extra weight into training camp. After the Knicks lost to the Heat in the first round of the playoffs, Knicks coach Mike Woodson suggested that Melo, along with a few of his teammates, needed to get into better shape. Anthony has since undertaken a rigorous training program in the Los Angeles area that's helped him shed 12 pounds and feel lighter on his feet at 239 pounds.
Anthony has also worked out with teammates Tyson Chandler and Jeremy Lin a few times.
A few days ago, Woodson, along with members of the team, flew to LA and were impressed with what they saw from Anthony.
"Me and coach Woodson talk, and me and the training staff talk, and there are some things that they would like to see coming back into this season," Anthony said. "Right now, I exceeded their expectations, and when they saw me the other day, they were kind of shocked to see me down in weight. They came to my workout, they saw it. They're actually excited about how much hard work that I'm putting in and the things I'm doing right now."
Anthony has found inspiration in watching his friend James win a title with the Heat.
He said that James' accomplishment made him feel "extra motivated," especially because the Finals MVP was able to quiet the critics who said he couldn't win the big game. Those same critics haven't left Melo alone since he arrived in New York in Feb. 2011 after a blockbuster trade, simply because he's the Knicks' best player.
"The motivation is fun at this point in time just to see those guys and see how excited they were to win that championship and see LeBron overcome everything that he's been going through and that's been said about him," said Anthony, who talked to James and Dwyane Wade right after Game 5. "And for him to finally get it, I couldn't be more excited for him to get that. But for me, it's motivation and it's exciting."
In addition to the workout meeting, Anthony, Woodson, assistants Jim Dodd and Darrell Walker, as well as Lin and Chandler, met for dinner and discussed team preparation for next season.
"It was good, man," Anthony said. "Myself, Tyson and Jeremy was out there in LA working out and training and things like that, and the coaching staff came out there and gave their support. The training staff was out there. We're just trying to get that camaraderie right now, that family mentality and trying to create a bond -- not just on the court, but off the court as well right now."
Anthony reflected on the past season, calling it a "roller-coaster" and one in which "injuries were our downfall." But he's very encouraged by next season, saying it was a "great thing" that the Knicks re-signed Woodson. Melo said with a full season ahead, which would be his first in New York (with no trade or lockout), it'll give the team the needed time to jell.
"We've got to be together for a minute," he said. "All the teams that won over the years have been together for multiple years and they've been through a lot of stuff. We had three fourths of a season last year to deal with what we were dealt with. This year, we want to come in with a clean plate. We've got a full year. I'll be here for a full year, our team will be here for a full year, training camp. We won't have nothing to worry about. It's just basketball and locking in at this point."
Anthony wouldn't specify which free agents or kinds of players the Knicks need, but he hinted what could prevent new players from joining the team.
"Money always comes into play, so that's a big thing," he said.
If the Bird rights ruling stands, the Knicks can sign Lin and Steve Novak over the salary cap and will have a mid-level exception of $3 million to spend, likely on a seasoned veteran point guard. But that amount could still be lower than what Steve Nash, Andre Miller and Raymond Felton could fetch in free agency.
Regarding the wax figure, Anthony said it was the coolest thing that's happened to him since he's been in New York. He said he worked on the project after practice one day this past season, posing for about six hours, so the wax figure team could begin the design process.
"This is the No. 1 thing," he said. "I never imagined first just me being in this museum representing New York like this. This is at the top of my list."

The wax figure plays more D than Anthony. BAZINGA!
The figure looks like it's ready to pass, SIKE!
The figure is missing something...a RING!

All jokes aside, I'm glad Melo is trying to get it going in the offseason earlier, shedding some pounds, training and gaining more chemistry with Chandler and Lin. Hopefully playing in the Olympics this summer maintains his fitness level, and he can continue that ball rolling with the rest of the team for this upcoming important season.

I don't understand something, didn't he say he was in great shape last season? Now he is in "super great" shape or ???

Good to hear though.

Man, it's like Eddy Curry all over again. I hope we dOnt have to keep talk about players losing weight. No one is beating Miami unless they are in top shape. Amare and Melo need to come to camp slimmer and focused.

MDA did begin to put it together before the Melo trade so why are u stretching the truth? That team had lower expectations than this years team. It wasn't good with no PG but once they found Lin all they needed was for Melo to buy in 100% which he admitted he didn't do!!! Stop giving Melo a pass for that. No coach can make a player do anything they dont want to and Melo didn't want to play hard until MDA resigned. Now he wants to get in shape?

Better late than never I guess
